Counter reset problem, please help.

I bought a Leica CL recently and was eager to try it out. At the end of shooting the first roll, when I tried to wind forward another new frame, unfortunately, I did it too hard and it pulled the entire film out of the cartridge. I heard the sound and of course the rewind feature won’t work then. I managed to get the film out in dark room. At that moment, I did not remember whether the counter was reset or not. I certainly have winded the roll and then clicked the shutter several times when the back was left open. Until the moment when I tried to load a new film, did I find the problem: the counter was not reset as 0 but 8, no matter how I tried, it just stuck at 8. The wind feature seems working fine, if I close the back and wind it forward (without loading a real film inside), fire the shutter, the counter does go forward until it reaches the end, but after I open the back, it resets itself to 8 again.

I wish there would be some tricks I could use to reset it back to 0, pleas help. Does any one have similar problems before and how do you fix it? Thanks a lot for your input in advance, really appreciate it!

Have you tried pressing the rewind button on the bottom of the camera and then opening the door?

Maybe the button has something to do with resetting and due to just opening the door. The counter hasn't reset properly.

If that doesn't work. It's probably not major. Just keep track of the pictures you've taken.

Other try is to load the film. Wind a few frames in, press rewind button , rewind film and open the door again.

There is a little tab that the back pushes on, to engage the film counter. It is located at the edge of the body, at where the film take-up is. You can see it if you take the back off and look up the slot at the edge.

You could try pulling gently at the tab and see if it releases the counter to allow it to go the extra bit from 8 to zero.

I don't like the sounds of your problem, where you pulled the film off the spool. That puts a lot of force into the wind system. It may have been the cause of the problem, where now the counter resets only to 8.

Worse case is that the top needs to be removed from the camera (not really a hard job) and the counter dial moved so that when it resets, it resets at 0.

good luck

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Vickko, you saved me. I found the little tab, at first, no matter how I pushed it, nothing happened, then I inserted the tweezers into the spaces between the tab and the body, I heard a crisp sound, how wonderful, now the counter resets itself to zero!

Thank you so much, really really appreciate your help!

The tab is the key, it is located at the place where the edge of the back touches the body. I guess the resetting spring was stuck due to my mistakes, give it a little bit of extra spaces then it bounces back.

Thank you for your suggestions too.
