Hello everybody,

what are your opinions on the two versions of coverings for the M8.2 (vulcanite) and the MP (sharkskin)? Which one do you prefer?

Thanks for your feedback

I prefer Cameraleather's offerings. Morgan of Cameraleather offers the same fake Vulcanite covering as Leica does btw, at half the price....

I don't know. I don't own a camera with the sharkskin, while I had the M8 on test-drive I didn't mind the sharkskin. My favorite is the M7 covering I think, though the MP3 Vulcanite is nearly as good.

Sharkskin is a no-no imo. Many shark species are endangered by irresponsible fishing practices, some are even redlisted. 80% of sharkskin on the market is from doubtful sources or downright illegal. As long as Leica does not provide a sustainable resources certificate with the covering -no. Too fishy.

I am an MP owner. I don't have to hold vulcanite to know that vulcanite is infinitely better than the #$@!* sandpaper or whatever the MP one is called.

OK, there.

i have no idea what they call the covering on my BP MP. But if I had my ruthers I would choose brown leather.

The MP covering isn't really real sharkskin, is it? Well, whatever it is, it's awful! Much too slippery. I put my MP into a Luigi case right away.

Rob-F,

you are right, the covering of the MP is no real sharkskin. But it has the feeling of sharkskin and so Leica took this name.

The covering of the MP is a reminiscence to the historical screwmount Leica´s.
