I just bought a mint- rz67 pro II outfit on CL (Los Angeles) for less than it would have cost on eBay or KEH. Condition was better than expected, and there's less risk of getting a lemon when you can inspect in person. I like and use eBay and KEH as well, but I think, going forward, I will prefer an in person purchase for certain types of items.
As an example: I also just bought a Pentax LX. It a known to have a specific issue with sticky mirrors. I bought one on eBay from a seller who specifically included language that noted his camera did not suffer that problem. When I received it, guess what? It stuck at half the shutter speeds. I called KEH about an LX they had listed. Asked them to verify operations of those shutter speeds. Their sample had the same problem. I would have been stuck with returning both cameras, as the the loss of two weeks waiting for them, and the time spent finding replacements and dealing with the returns.
I haven't had an issue with meeting places. I've bought the RZ kit and a fuji ga645, both at the sellers' apartments. And I've sold a Contax T3, Hasselblad 203FE, and a guitar, from my own apartments. The only thing I don't like about craigslist is that buyers typically feel as if they can show up and then start negotiating price. I guess, if you list something, specify the price as "firm" if it is firm....
