Leica LTM Craigslist leica 111f,sumicron $500

Leica M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Well, that's most interesting. I've got a USPS MO for $315 in transit to him right now. He sold it to me on Thursday. When did you get the quote of $500 ?

A few weeks ago a guy got scammed out of $1000 on the LF forum when a guy appeared asking questions about a very rare soft focus lens, with a lot of red flags. The "seller" even asked the buyer to split the postal money orders into two different checks, "in case the post office doesn't have enough money."

I always ask for a phone number, name, and address on CL sales. Then I do some snooping and make sure everything matches up. Then I talk to the seller on the phone, asking questions only someone holding the camera could answer. I've even asked for a picture be taken with a special item (a coin) in it. You have to do all you can to avoid ripoffs when sending large amounts of money to total strangers.

If you have talked to him, and his name matches his address and phone, you're probably ok. If not, you better talk to the PO fast about cancelling the money order, if it's even possible.

Maybe I was too quick to bring up worries. I don't see anything wrong with an ad going away after someone agreed to buy. That's what you should do. Since the OP who pointed out the ad never answered if he contacted the seller, and when, I'm assuming the camera has been shipped to the buyer. He can let us know if not.

I hope it works out well.
It did not work so well for me when i bought a similar IIIF a few weeks ago also from CL. Did get the camera no problem with the shutter did not work and the front lens element had lots of cleaning marks. I had no choise than to send it to Youxin Ye to get a CLA on both camera and lens. The condition of camera and lens appart from the flaws mentioned was almost mint so in the end when it is all working it will be a nice camera just abit more expensive than it should have been.

About all I should say at this point is that things appear to be stable. There are interesting details about this matter that are best left undiscussed . The seller deleted the ad per my request. The money order should arrive tomorrow so it'll be the end of the week before I know how this turns out. Craigslist used to be a great place to buy cameras but the players have increased tenfold. It's getting tougher out there. Thanks for the concern expressed here, appreciate it.

any update? curious to know if all was as it seemed ----

Real nice. It's hard to find Summicrons without cleaning marks or areas of blotchy, corroded glqss on the front optic. Some very light haze on the convex side of the element ahead of the aperture but it doesn't look like it will respond well to cleaning so I'll probably leave it. The lens passes a loupe test with ease. The camera will be straight forward, might need a second curtain but I doubt it. The seller was 100% straight up. Can't ask for much more.

glad to see it turned out to be a smooth deal. The summicron itself is worth more than what you paid. Congratulations! I am a big fan for collapsible Summicron.
