Crazy about the Planar 50mm - pics thread

I've just bought a Planar, and shot my first images tonight - it's my only modern lens (I usually tend to prefer older, lower contrast lenses). I was originally choosing between a modern Sonnar and a vintage Sonnar. In the end I decided to get two lenses for my money - a secondhand ZM Planar for the modern look with its sharpness and higher contrast, and I'm now looking around for a Jupiter 3 for the Sonnar and vintage look. The images in this thread are very impressive and had much to do with my final decision.

I'm new to the Planar - I've only had mine a few weeks. It still hasn't supplanted the collapsible Summicron as my favourite lens, but I am really liking it.

I'm glad to. the 0.7 minimum focus distance is really important on the planar btw. that's why I use planar allmost all the time. sonnar is waiting for only the right moments.

I will be honest I am starting to feel like 35mm film is just not my thing and may try to move my m2 / planar. If it's the best lens I own in 35mm, I wouldn't know it. My poor Minolta cant tell if it's at f2 or f8.

We had a strong wind come through and it knocked this grill into the lake:

hmm I think I might be channeling new forum mod (congrats!) Helen here as Ive basically waivered back into not selling. one thing is for sure, Im done shooting tri-x. I think my recent lapse in faith has come from a failure to separate the lens from my film/developing/scanning.

rather than look at scans, I went ahead and put my loupe on some negatives where I took test shots to compare my ZM50P against my beloved Zuiko 50/3.5 macro. Now that Zuiko is no slouch and can run with some of the best of them. It also has a super cool drawing style and it showed a 55/3.5 Nikkor who the boss was when I compared them head to head both on digital and on film. It also may have been demolished by one Zeiss planar. As in the Zeiss at f2.8 was better than the Zuiko at 5.6. well at least in the center 2/3rds which is where I had stuff in focus.

At any rate Im going to go back to 100 iso film and put some money into upgrading my film scanner or something.

here is one on acros.

Sounds like you have the wrong Sonnar.
the 50mm f1.4 Nikkor-sc (sonnar design) goes to 0.7meters with minimum effort.
