So I've gathered. I suggest you try giving him a call as well. At least you'd get a second opinion on the quote.

How about separating shutter and rangefinder adjustment from the CLA - and claiming that the vulcanite normally need to be replaced?

Don't ask me why, but they do replace the covering with new. They even replaced the covering on my M7, under warranty and almost new.

High? Yes, so is a new Leica. And they don't keep your camera for ever and ever and ever.

However, for a simple CLA on an non-electronic M, I'd send it to any big name repair shop. They are really pretty simple cameras.

Ok the M2's shutter is working again...
Too bad I forgot to leave a lens on it and so now I had to recalibrate the rangefinder by myself (thanks to all of you that have posted so many tips and tricks and how-to).
Now I've just taken 10 test shots to verify the alignment is good.

He have just lubed it and now seems perfect (beside for some little vertical misalignment I'm still trying to fix).
