ampguy: Wow, those eyes! I would love to see those 2 pairs of eyes filling the frame. You didn't have much choice but the rest of the scene doesn't hold much interest and it would be hard to close in as I imagine the subjects might have fled.
==============================================

==> I also found a need to focus more on the two cats. I can see a more abstract image emerging, simply by removing any excess areas around the cats.

thelovecollect: I love the tonal range in this image. In fact the subject matter is the kind of thing I love but somehow never think to capture. The whiteness of the board works well sitting in shadow. The human element is needed I think but could be less distracting (less DOF). Finally the only thing I would want to change is to have slightly more space at the bottom of the sign so it feels more 'grounded'.
===================================================

==> I felt the need to better isolate the sign from the rest of the image. At this stage, only cropping is an option.

Nico: I love the variation in the childrens faces. The fact that some are aware of the camera and others aren't. There is a lot of interesting 'narrative' that a viewer could decide for themselves here. The boy on the left looks slightly awkward and seems the odd one out. Perhaps it would have been nice to see the feet of the second boy from the left. Otherwise a tighter crop on the childrens faces would have really pushed the character of this image even further.

==> The faces of the children make this a strong image. A crop from below will make the faces jump out.

==================================================
RaidAmin: I love that the texture of the sea and sand merge together so well to create an almost seamless backdrop, the limited tonal range helps too. I wonder how the image would look cropped at the edge to make the subjects less centred and maybe cropped at the bottom too to allow the tide mark to act as a visual hook to guide the viewers eyes.[/QUOTE]

==> I deliberately took this photo with my children in the center and with the environment being the bigger factor. I take many photos of my two girls, so I must experiment to get something new out each time. The white beaches on a day with white sky make the photo very monochromatic and abstract somehow. Oh well.

raid: a majestic backdrop for your children. i can only imagine what they are thinking when surrounded by the ocean. there is a lack of contrast but the kids are framed such a way that the focus is on their wonder and innocence...with some contrast correction in the darkroom, this would make a memorable print..

==> My older daughter is always in a different world when we are close to any body of water. I leave them now alone to enjoy and wonder while I observe and take photos. I have this enjoyment every weekend.

Late as usual ... Raid, please, don't hate me !!! ;)

Ampguy: great photo, those eyes make the shot (funny and a bit creepy at the same time for me). I also like the exposure and the only possible suggestion is, at least, a cropping of the shot. :)

Thelovecollect: I found a sudden hirony (correct spelling?) in the list of fish costs called "Fish tales". The shot has an interesting composition, I like the human presence in the shot (don't need more imho) and the light but I'd rather see more ground in the lower left corner. :)

GarethC: I like the shot, it seems to be in a fantasy movie where the boy and the strange pig are friends. The pose and the expression are great. The background - at least, may be a little distracting. :)

Raid: a great shot, i like the composition, you break the rules and put them in the middle of the shot between the land and the ocean; they also remind me Charles Shultz's "Peanuts" (making me feel the same mood I have when I read this great poetic comic). I like this shot the way it is, the only thing I can suggest is to try to make it a little bit more contrasty. :)

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I hadn't realised when shooting that the background would be so distracting. I did however as soon as I viewed the file on my mac.

This image (and others) have made me realise that I tend to shoot without really looking sometimes. Though that is partly because (as with this shot) so many captures are from fleeting moments and there isn't time to really evaluate options.

Anyway, thanks again.

Thanks to everyone for this crittique session.
I hope that I have not annoyed anyone here.
