Emraphoto: Interesting and fresh take on the theme by highlighting/obsuring the lines of the landscape via light, shadow, blurred motion. The street scene is familiar enough and it adds a welcome compositional layer although the slightly uncertain framing makes it also seem somewhat random. The lines starting from the pavement and the tent of the store could had been placed at the angles of the frame to heighen the sense of dynamic perspective already present in the photo. I like the colour temperature as is.

Kathytoth: Striking image. The decisive positioning of the various compositional elements relate to the viewer the deliberate nature of the exercise. The massive slabs and clear bold lines of the pavement emphasize the monumental scale and functional nature of the landscape. The very absence of any human form debates the purpose of constructions that are formally adequate albeit sterile. The exposure seems to have posed a challenge in terms of the zones captured, a print may very well do it better justice.

Jan: The geometry is present and it is well controlled but the interest here is with mood and and atmosphere. The big Geisha poster and the glassy structure give the photo a futuristic look familiar from Blade Runneresque dystopias. The distance of your observation provides the photo with an enticing contemplative quietness. Mood is superbly enhanced by the choice of hour the photo was taken - dusk or dawn. A darker sky (and a richer tonality) would have added to the brooding nuances.

Gabriel: Clear geometry and purposeful use of the formal elements within the frame. Excellent use of colour, in particular of the vibrantly blue band separating the frame in two 'brown' halves, one occupied by regular humans in casual activities and the other by the poignantly watchful icon. Whether his somewhat scornful glance is related to the message of the billboard or perhaps to the kind of activity of the occupants of the lower frame remains tantalisingly unanswered. While the formally important blue bridge is stragetically positioned in the middle, the content-significant poster of the singer is slightly obscured by the taking angle and could benefit perhaps from a slight repositioning insofar as that wouldn't upset the other elements of the composition. Strong image.

geez everybody... i'm very sorry it took me so long to get here. well here goes...
kathy... well what can i say. it pretty much embodies the overall theme. great lines, very fluid. i really dig the "clashing patterns" as the fashionista's would say. grid's, curves and straight lines all coming together in some willy nilly BUT somehow balanced frame. i love the huge foreground so no critiques there... the only possible nit pick i can come up with is the downsloping road? where it meets the grid of the foreground seems a little blown out to me. but that's really searching for a criticism... please forgive me. great job!
jan... again another huge foreground and it seems to make sense to me. it kind of guides your eye's to the somewhat "satirical" element of the girl on the sign. that's the element that really makes the photo unusual, gives it a sense of depth. the only thing i'd maybe like to see is a little less sky and foreground. now that's certainly not a critique... more of a hmmm, i wonder.
gabriel... cool photo indeed. the fella's eye's seem perfectly in line with the folks soaking up the rays. i love the huge swath of blue seemingly invading the frame. it seems to really create a sense of tension for me. again a symphony of totally seperate things coming together to attempt some sort of order. i really like what you were going for here. i was thinkink if it was shot in the am or pm the center wouldn't suffer the wash out however the people might not be around for it... and the photo wouldn't be the same without them.
alkis... honestly i can't really see it my friend. i'm really hesitant to comment on it. it's obviously a really great study of lights and tone but i'm just not able to make much out. terribly sorry...
alright that leaves emraphoto. may i say wow! what a masterpiece... hang on, sorry that's me.
