Critique and Opinion ...

... "Self- critique should do." ... do you not care what your viewers think of your photos then?

That´s right, I don´t care, or not too much. I don´t make my living from photography, I don´t do shows, and I dont´have to please anybody else. Most of my pics are private in the sense that they show friends and family. Most of my friends like my darkroom work, although they don´t have to. That´s enough recognition for me, besides that I like my own pics. A bit autistic, maybe, but I´m happy with it. I dont´want to produce art, just memories.

... well that's fine and good, but not really what I was talking about is it?

Excuse me for disturbing, I just wanted to add a different aspect to the discussion, my Point of view.

critique - a detailed analysis and assessment of something. Estimation of the nature, quality, or ability of someone or something
opinion - a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. . .
Dear Keith,

Best yet.

My offer for art only:

"Critique" = something useful to the person on the receiving end.

"Opinion" = something they disagree with: a means of denying that some people actually have some idea of what they are talking about, or the skill to put it into words.

In medicine or law, by contrast, "opinions" are generally sought from those who have studied the subject rather than from those with boundless self-confidence and a complete or substantial lack of knowledge despite an idle interest in the subject.

Cheers,

R.

... that's a nicely presented position, and I pretty much agree with it. The last part I've found that people in 'the trade' think it is generally, yet those outside think their view prevails ... opinion trumps learning every time

I'm retired so it's less of a problem now.

Thank you for the kind comment Stuart. Your opinion is one I highly regard.

Cheers!
