Just a quick question. Do you guys like the crumpler photo bags? Not sure which one to even be looking at. Really just want to carry 1 camera (a RF or SLR) some filters, film, flash and a book and not have it look like a camera bag. Tryin to do this on a budget so i'm really hesitating.....

Any opinions?

Thanks.

I had a Crumpler bag (15 Love) that I used for one night, and then promptly sold. It was a solid, well built bag. However, the bag was too small for my gear. Crumpler tends to make their bags seem larger than they are. Make sure you go by their recommendation, and then go the size up. That is, if you want to carry 1 body and two lenses, by a bag that claims it holds 1 body and three lenses.

IMO Domke bags are better. They don't look like camera bags and hold a lot of gear in remarkably small spaces.

I have the big Fux Deluxe with the photo insert for my 4x5" Technika system. I like it. I've carried it for hours with 25 lbs of stuff, and it's pretty comfortable. I know a few people with smaller ones and they all seem happy with them.

I see you're also in NYC. I'm not sure if it's still there, but there used to be a Crumpler store down in Soho that carried all the different models and all the photo inserts, which is where I bought mine. You can often get good deals on new but discontinued Crumpler bags upstairs in the used department at B&H.

I just came back from NYC and I carried my Next Venue. I really like it and I carry it like my old messenger bag. It fitted a Minolta SLR, 50mm, 35mm, 24mm, 85mm, a planner and film. I'd like to get something smaller though but I can't figure out what Crumpler to get. I think the "n million" bags are the new ones that replaced the ones with the wacky names. My friend uses a Domke 802 which he actually carried a Polaroid 110B camera in it and a small Leica P&S.

Here he is with it:

I've got a "Sporty Guy", I don't remember which one, but it's the big one. It holds my A-1 and two lenses, but I really have to cram the stuff in there. Since I usually have my camera in my hands or around my neck, I don't mind cramming it for transport.
My only problem with it is that it was designed for the digital photographer. It has a bunch of pockets for media, but rolls of film are a bit bulky for the front pocket.

The crumplers are nice on the point that they look like everything but a camera bag. Also for their nice trendy colours. However, IMHO, they are a bit small and they have too much padding.

I don't know what the current models being sold in the US are, but I have the "6 Million Dollar Home" model, which I bought in Canada (see the specs on the Crumpler Canada website). It holds the following kit:
- R + Nokton 50
- R + C/V 21 + VF
- C/V 75
- 10+ rolls of film
- Day planner, pen, various folded papers
- Filters, cables, etc
- An apple or orange

There's still a little room for stuff to slosh around in there, but I have it set up to be not too tightly packed. The "4 Million Dollar Home" model would serve quite well if you were going to only carry one body with some accessories (CLICK HERE).

I'm very happy with my Crumpler bag. It is heavy duty, well constructed, and after four months on the road, it looks like new; no damage at all. As has been mentioned, the padding is quite thick on the bag, so you don't maybe get as much interior space as you would expect. If you have a chance to actually try different models, that's best.

Cheers,
BJ

Oh, and a short post-script: Here in Cologne, there's actually a Crumpler Store! They have every variety of camera, laptop, and messenger bag, with all the Digits and accessories. 😎

I must resist the urge to go in there! No buying! :bang:

I love the crumpler bags.. I'll agree they're not as roomy as you might think from looking at them.. but I had a Bens Pizza XXL and managed to cram in 2 x Bessa Rs, a Minolta F spotmeter, 5-10 rolls of film, Nokton 50/1.5, skopar 25/4, Elmar 90/4 and 6 filters. Bit of a squeeze but was OK.

I had to switch from bessas to Nikon SLRs and had to get a slightly bigger bag Crumpler bag for that kit... so I now proudly sport a Long Schlong when I go out for a days shooting.

I have 5 million dollar home Crumpler bag and love it. It holds my Bessa R with 50/1.5 Nocton mounted, 35/2.5, Jupiter 8, light meter, 3 rolls of film, moleskin notebook, utility knife, sharpie pen, regular pen and other little odds and ends. It goes with me everywhere I go, my wife calls it my purse.

For the Photo Bags all they list now are.
The Bundle (S,M,L)
Million Dollar Home (1,2,3,4,5,6,7)
Budgie Smuggler (discontinued)
Stamp Claimer
Snauros(discontinued)

I found when I got to the shop I couldn't find any of the new non-pornographic name type bags that are on the website... all they had were the old ones - so I guess you'd have no problem finding the discontinued ranges.
