Funny think I notice with the new photoshop cs3, when I go to save as there is no option to save as a jpg anymore! This seems unbelievably short sighted of me because obviously photoshop would not want you to save as for web or device just so you can stick out a jpg then complain each time you did it that you are going to get out of memory errors and the sort then take forever to generate a preview in which you are stuck waiting....right?

You need to change the file to 8 bits/channel then you can save as a jpeg.

I was going to suggest the same thing as wray. When it's not there it's usually because you're in 16- or 32-bit.

Yep, file needs to be in 8 bits to save as a jpeg. Don't do this unless you've finished the editing process though - once you convert to 8 bit you're throwing out information in the image.
