Maiku, you put me in a difficult position as a Southerner. The present politically correct mafioso has declared the rebel flag persona non grata, and our statues of war heroes have been dragged down by unruly mobs and frightened politicians trying to get reelected. Since the flag is my heritage, perhaps it should be me who tells others what it means rather the other way 'round? I guess the Germans know it's real meaning since they flew it when they tore down their Berlin wall, but then Germans are pretty sharp folks.
Since some of the more positive hallmarks of Southern culture are civility, manners and politeness (right up to the point where we kill you if you cross us) I will post something else on a public forum rather than give the sharks something to feed on. In my personal life, I do what I wish when I wish, and think that's a fine way to be.
So here's a shot of a Southern man of Italian and British blood (me) and my Basque/Spanish gal (June) in New Mexico at a parade celebrating the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos. We got lots of cultural stuff on going here, and none of it means much really. We're all just human animals living our lives today as best we know how.

Yeah, well Steve, I am a Southerner, too. Actually from Texas, but close enough, and I could not disagree with you more. Your choice of a flag is one that represents racism. Call it what you want, but that is exactly what it is. And as for the statues? Really? Most of those were put up to remind black folks of their place in the new Southern reality. Those statues are not a tribute to war heroes. They are reminders of a revolt led by traitors. They lost the war, get over it.

For My American Friends - "Bruce"
My good friend made this photo at one of Springsteen's first Toronto concert over 40 years ago. Together, we made a print in our makeshift darkroom in the apartment we shared and I kept it all these years in an envelope of old pictures. The thread reminded me of those glory days.

I am Australian. Sadly I do not have a photograph of a kangaroo drinking beer.
But possibly I could point to this cultural icon instead - Australia's beaches. (In this case it's Four Mile Beach at Port Douglas, Queensland. And yes it is 4 miles long)

And of course its ocean - again Port Douglas but taken from an offshore island looking back towards the mainland.

EDIT: Well what do you know, I was wrong (not my photo though).

Lovely David. I understand the problem as you can't have your Bara Brith and photograph it! Proper food.
