Curb Find Scanmate 2C49?

Hello Rangefinder Forum! I just happened to come across some sort of Scanmate, a "2C49" someone was about to toss to the curb I just had to take on home.

I do not know it's age, my guess is mid to late 1980's.

The previous owner had told me it belonged to his family and did not know anything about it, I can confirm it does power on.

Does anyone have any information on this model, max resolution and density? software required to operate it?

Its the lowest end drum scanner model from Scanmate. The main specs are:

2000dpi
3.0 D Max
12bit per channel via PMT

You should be able to get amazing color negative and bw scans if everything is in working order. Check out this thread for more info on these scanners.

Thanks! I did see that thread, loads of useful directions to skim through.

Will be scanning 6x6 & 6X7 negatives for the most part, looking forward to the results as I have only ever used a flatbed.

Now I have heard a lot of old drums including from Scanmate do not have autofocus, I have been learning to focus manually which I believe is on the back of this machine.

My old setup and I do not kid, white cardboard over negatives on a 1200 dpi Hewlett Packard flatbed.

If anyone has had any success with the 2C49, I would be real interested to see what their lowest model was capable of.

Just keep in mind, that today Epson scanners offers better scan quality than this Drum scanner. Focus in this scanner is fixed, changing focus point is not easy operation. Also you need old Color quartet software for this model ( Scanview Scanmate Magic ), maybe old Color Trio will work.

Nice machine for fun, not for real scanning in these days. Look for the Scanmate 3000, this is much better scanner with 3 PMT, autofocus and really good quality scans.
