Current favorite reusable cassettes?

I use Leitz cassettes with the Leicas and the Zeiss cassettes with Contax. But, of course, these work only with the right câmera. Used canisters are ok, but you can use them only 2 or 3 times without scratches.

I normally use IXMOO's but they are Leica specific for what I know and only work from M3 up to M6 early versions. M6 TTL onwards the bottom plate won't open these.

The bottom plate on late M6 and M6TTL models can be swopped for a base from an earlier camera with the notch to open an IXMOO. The M7 and MP (second model 😉) cannot accept an IXMOO into the film chamber at all.

You are of course correct the standard late M6 & M6TTL plate does not work.

I like the Kalt cassettes...some of the newer ones are coded for 100 or 400 ASA/ISO
I like the way the caps snap in place...
I buy them whenever I come across them...

I have some five or six old-style Ilford cassettes, the sturdy ones from the 1970s.

There's a single bulk roll of PolyPan F left that I plan to shoot in the Hexar over time, all the other camera stuff is medium or large format now anyway.

IXMOO for Leica. Perfect in every respect .

Kodak snap cap used to be good and I had many. Last box of 100 could hardly remove the caps. Will never rebut.

I came across some old unused Ansco cassettes on eBay and bought them, because they are so pretty. Also gonna try out some snap caps.

I'm not sure if my M6 is compatible...I should check that out. I love the idea of the IXMOO. Do they only work in Leicas? Is there a brass cassette out there that is universal? Canon? Nikon?

For rolling my own 35mm film cartridges, I prefer using the metal felt-less Nikon AM-1 cassettes for use in the Nikon F2 35mm SLR.

If your M6 is pre-TTL then it will work. Remove the bottom plate and check if it has the opening mechanism. Sort of like an M3 or M2' bottom plate.

As far as I know - yes - IXMOOs only work in Leica.
There was another type called FILCA which works in the screw mount Leicas only so be careful when shopping for IXMOOs not to get FILCAs by mistake.

Early M6 work with the IXMOO. My M6 .85 from about 1999 will not work an IXMOO. I've used the Nikon cassettes and they work well. For other cameras, if you can find the Shirley Wellard cassette, there are several models, they can be adjusted to work in many cameras. Joe

That's interesting. My M6 0.85 from about 1999 seems to work fine with the IXMOO cassette I currently have on loan from Ben (I'll have to get that back to you soon, Ben!).

The problem with the M6 .85 is the baseplate not having the coupling disc to engage the cassette. The baseplate latch looks different on the inside than an early M6 baseplate. Joe

With my M6 0.85 I am able to load the IXMOO cassette and shoot normally (advance and rewind the film), which I take to mean the IXMOO is working fine. Am I missing something?

Edit: nope, I have a new type baseplate. I guess the old type baseplate is meant to push on the silver pin on the cassette... but oddly enough, my new type baseplate seems to work... or does it 😕

Ixmoo for the M6 and Ilford cassettes with the brass coloured ends, circa 1990's for everything else if I need bulk loads.
