I have been using a borrowed 21mm this weekend and have just collected the negatives. the amount of flare has really surprised me, not just from sides but also from above. Admittedly is was very bright and the sun was fairly low but the results are much much worse than from the 35mm which I was using as a comparison.

The standard mini-lenshood was fitted. Is flare generally a problem with this lens and does the alternative CV lens hood help significantly?

I don't have the square hood for mine and haven't had a lot of trouble with flare. I've noticed that if the frame lines in the dedicated VF are OK, then probably I won't have to worry. The converse seems to work well also; if I can't see the frame lines, then I'll likely have some flare on the neg.

I've been using the 21/4 quite a bit over the past few months in order to put together a review for http://cosina-voigtlander.com. Shots have ranged from close-in street to 'scapes in low, bright sun. While I have seen some flare through the VF (I have oily fingers 😛) I have yet to see an image with one.

BTW, the review will be ready in a few days. I'm in the process of scanning appropriate photos and CNY is kinda getting in the way a little 😛

I have the 25, but everything I've heard, read, and every CV lens I've owned (read too many) is very flare resistant. I've shot with my 25 into the sun (no filter) and nothing. Dozens of shots, I think I have two with some flare. BTW, standard hood (I hate big on this lens).
