CV 25/4 snapshot lens hood

Does anyone know the part number for a replacement original lens shade? I just ordered one from KEH (no finder, no hood). My google search only showed the LH-1, which isn't what originally shipped with the lens and is also significantly bigger. Or do I even need a hood with this lens?
 
a hood is always a good idea.
ask cameraquest about a replacement.
i highly recommend the lh-1...works great and looks even better.

Thanks, I'll do that! Is the LH-1 really as big as it looks? I'm shooting with a leica IIIa, it seems that some of the stealth factor is taken away using that hood...
 
it's not small. i use one on my cv 21 and the rd1 but mostly old codgers, like me, ever seem to notice it when i'm out and about.

That is all I ever used with mine as it is very functional at blocking extraneous light and protecting the front element. And I use hoods on all lenses. I just could never see any need for anything else for this great lens.

Umm, I'm not sure. I just placed the order today from KEH, on the phone they said it didn't come with caps or hood. So that means either no hood or maybe they don't know what the hood looks like! I'll find out Friday when it gets here. On a related side-topic, how does the 21/4 stack up against the 25/4?

standard rounds hoods are included with both 25 Voigtlander lenses,
but the round hoods can be removed and lost.

the CQ price list shows replacement hoods for both,
as well as 3 different 25 VF
plastic bodied 25 and 21/25 VF
and the improved metal 21/25 VF with brighter optics.
there is also the multi format 15-35 VF

You can use a round filter mount with the glass removed as a lens shade --small and effective....and cheap.
 
LH 1 hood is very good . Its a large hood but doesn't make the camera unwieldy

I agree, although I may end up getting one just for landscapes and other situations where anonymity isn't required.

The filter mount idea is pretty good, I may end up doing that with a cheapo filter.
 
do you really think that using an ancient screw mount camera lends you anonimity?
it makes us more of a curiosity than not. the minute you start to change film in public people will stare and often make comment.

that bigger hood ain't gonna' make a bit of difference.

Yeah, taking out my scissors and trimming the leader for my IIIa does tend to produce stares :)
 
A problem with this hood is that it intrude in the frameline of the finder, when mounted on a barnack.

Edit: Speak about LH-1.

I've got one in the mail so soon I will be able to finally try it out. I've never seen one without the small lens hood so I mistakenly assumed you couldn't take it off!
