anyone used these 2 lenses before? any significant difference in image quality?

thinking of selling the hex and replace with a cv 28 or 15mm...

cheers....

The Ultron is a stop faster than the Hexanon, so if that's important, then make the change. But if you're also considering the 15mm f/4.5 then it seems speed isn't the issue, and it gets confusing. If you need WIDE, then the 15mm is the way to go... But which is more important to you; more speed or more width? Maybe the fine Hexanon f/2.8 is the optimal choice after all.

(FWIW I haven't used either the Ultron nor Hexanon; I have the 15mm and a 28 Summicron, so I'm happy 😉

thanks.... actually, i prefer the speed than the wide....
i was thinking of replacing hex with the ultron but was afraid that the iq is very much different from the hex at least at f2.8... speed gained from switch to ultron is a bonus plus it's cheaper than the hex... extra funds can be used for a 15mm

I haven't used the Hex so can't comment on it, but I regularly use the Ultron and like it a great deal. Wide open it's remarkably sharp corner-to-corner, with medium contrast. By 2.8 the contrast has picked up and is now very good. I remember reading Puts review of it, and he felt that it blew all the pre-APSH Leica 28 into the weeds. The Ultron replaced a CV 25/4.0 in my collection - I decided it'd gladly trade a little width for better speed to benefit interior shooting, and I've certainly never regretted it.

I use the CV 15mm too and, although it's not really an everyday focal length, it's a fun lens for bringing unusual perspectives to familiar scenes. I wouldn't part with mine.

Thx mr phillips.... Are u scottish? Saw that u're from glasgow on ur flickr.....
I graduated from glasgow uni almost 10yrs ago! Had some of my craziest days there!
wished I'd held a rf during those days....

I think the only difference you'll notice is a little less contrast when switching from the hex to the ultron, switch to the 15, and you'll probably also notice your feet from time to time!

I never used Ultron 28mm, but I do have Hexanon 28mm and all I can say is - it's not a lens I will sell any time soon. And I dont even use it that much. Plus I read that Hex 28 outperforms Leica 28 Elmarit. And i think ultron may be larger too, if i'm not mistaken. BUt pics I saw from ultron are very good. However, i'm not sure it's worth the switch in this case. Hex is just THAT good.

thanks.... i'm going for a short holiday soon... will bring the hex along to see if i'll keep it at the end of the day...😛 it's been in my dry cabinet all this while(less than 5 shots taken with it) and it's time to justify its existence.... 😀

28mm is my favorite focal length. I care less about lens price than about what the lens can do for me.

What has always prevented me from buying a 28/2.8 (Elmarit, ZM or Hexanon), is the existance of both the CV 28/3.5 and 28/1.9. The Color Skopar being very small, well built and optically competitive with any 28 out there, and only half stop slower. It's so small that I have to be careful not to get my fingers in a shot. Virtually 100% flare resistant. Very nice color rendition and high contrast:

The Ultron when I need speed. When I say speed I mean shallow DOF. No 28/2.8 can do the following:

In terms of hand-holdability, a 28/1.9 is equivalent to a 50/1.2 ... The Ultron fits very well together in a kit with either 50 or 75 Summilux. It is big, but not too big. Smaller than the 50/1.5 Nokton, for instance.

Best,

Roland.

thanks roland....for sharing your experiences...

my favorite focal length is 35mm... that is why i almost never shoot with a 28mm....
well, i'm starting to appreciate 28mm... hopefully more after my coming vacation...

the ultron size isn't a problem for me coz i use a cv beast...nokton 35mm....
ultron's shallow dof is my cup of tea though......

cheers....
