well, my 'beast' arrived yesterday, just in time for the weekend.
i took it to the market this morning but only fired off a few shots as the muse was in low gear today. there was an 'art walk' on the avenue as well.
i might be in a learning curve with this nokton beast, due to the very limited dof and i noticed that some high key areas seem to be a bit smeary with a sort of glow. the images are sharp but smooth. i need to play more with it, for sure.

This is a fine lens, especially to use on the Epson R-D1. Strangely, I've had some inconsistent copies of this lens and subsequently had to toss out two of the black ones as they just doesn't focus well on my R-D1. The chrome one works flawlessly from day one. But the big silver thing sticking out of the R-D1 really attracts attention. I don't find any veiling glare (glow) in the bright area though.
Hope to see somemore pictures soon joe!
Cheers.

helen and joe, you're in danger of starting a trend and probably driving up prices. joe, great shot, that first one... perfect timing to have the dog right by the mouth of the girl on the poster/painting.

Sean Reid just released his review of fast 35's on the M9. The 1.2 was one of them. It got stellar results!

Every time I see an image made with an R-D1 and CV 35/1.2, I feel a twinge of regret from selling my R-D1s. What made that combo so special for me was finding the right "film" (in-camera) for that beast... It took some trial and error to find the right film, but when I finally did, it was special.

My M5s need red dots!
Congratulations, Joe! I'll try to join that club some time... a lot later!

I recently acquired the same lens and am currently pairing it with the RD1.
It's not easy to get sharpness wide open, but when you are able to, it is a joy!
Here's a recent take to show what the lens can do...

Love the first shot, the contrast between the colour and expression of the dog and the B+W painting is striking. Great shot.

So what was your prefered combination in the film settings on the R-D1? Mine is on standard almost all of the time.

Cheers,
It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, my favorite setting with the CV 35/1.2 (I dedicated Film1 specifically for this lens) was to set the Edge Enhance, Contrast, Saturation and NR to the lower/lowest values and the tint set to somewhere in the middle.

Thanks Keith! I'll check it out and see if I like the results from deviating off the standard settings.

Sweet, Joe! Congrats. 'Tis a really fun, fine lens. I prefer it to fast 50s, at least on the M8. Just a better focal length for me as it's not too long... I imagine on the RD-1 even more so.
thanks. i am anxious to get out with it more.
i also just traded for the big 50/1.1 nokton as well.
on the rd1, the 50 is like a 75 and that has long been a favourite of mine.
