I have both the CV 50/2.5 and the Elmar-M 50/2.8.

I find the CV has a bit more overall contrast and the Elmar-M resolves more small detail. Ergonomically, I find the CV nicer and handier to use than the Elmar-M. The Elmar-M has yet to flare on me, whereas the CV has caught some flare a couple of times.

Shooting color film with the CV 35/2.5, the CV 50/2.5 is a good match for a consistent look in a compact package.

I pair the Elmar-M with a CV 35/1.4 when shooting people moving between indoors and out or sometimes when I choose to shoot black & white.

Another alternative is a good copy of the collapsible Summicron. More sensitive to flare than either yet good resolution, about as compact as the Elmar-M, and a classic look to its images. It also happens to go with the M3.

I'm looking for a compact 50mm lens for my newly aquired chrome M3. I have a black Elmar for my MP, but really want a chrome/silver lens for the chrome M3. I'm really happy with the IQ of the Elmar, but the CV 50/2.5 is about half the price and appears to be just as compact, and that's without a need to collapse the lens.

I'm looking for what others might think of the CV lens, and if you have had any experience with comparing the two. If you have any other suggestions for a compact 50, I'm all ears for that to!

Thanks.

The Canon 50/1.5 is small and probably around £150/$230?

Of course, for very little money there is also the Jupiter-8.
