cv 50/2.5 question

The focusing tab is loose on mine -- I mean REALLY loose, like it's about to fall off. Anyone know how to fix it?

When it was all in one piece, though, it was indeed a lovely little lens.

Cheers,

R.

It doesn't look that simple to me, I suspect you need a man with the required skills ...

The lens is back in production i guess as it appears at B&H photo for 289$, which is quite "cheap" for a rangefinder lens :) There'r also some other interesting 50mm lens. It's nice to see 50mm lenses from voigtlander :)

I don't always use it, but it's this one ... although I'll probably use the Leica one now I know it fits

... sorry about the rubbish photo

Dear Stewart,

That's why I've never done it. When Frances fell in love with (and bought) the 50/2.5 Summarit, the Color Skopar became a bit redundant, and of course, it's not very saleable in that state. It'd be interesting to try 'em side by side, though.

Cheers,

R.

Huh? this is simply not true. Their site's said that forever. I trust what cameraquest states about CV more than B&H.

I'm not sure there will much difference, it's almost indistinguishable from the last but one Summicron; in real world use that is, but yes, it would be of interest

It is a lovely little lens. Most users don't know the classic Leitz shade 12585 fits the lens.

Yes, I'd discovered this myself too. :) Of course, not just the 12585, but any of the clip-on hoods for e39 lenses, like the IROOA, ITOOY or SOOFM. They just barely grab onto the little lip on the lens barrel after removing the stock round hood.

I usually use the CV LH-2 hood, which is great (looks like an old OLLUX) and also fits the 28/3.5 Skopar (doesn't vignette on my R-D1, but dunno about full-frame).

among the VC lenses, I think the skopar 50 is one of those with QC issues yielding a broad range of reports on its performance.
Tom A, and many others here like it, while some don't, and a friend of mines told me that his was really not up there performance wise.
The 28 and 35 skopars, on the contrary have only very good reports about them, so I'm not sure the comparison is possible.

The 50/2.5 was my first rf lens, long time ago. Now I have several fifties of
different brands, and I don't use it very often. But I keep it. Mainly because I think
that maybe my son will use it, sometime in the future. Anyway, a fine lens.

Best, Pau

The tab is fixed on the inside by two screws. Remove the four screws on the back and remove the chrome ring. Then remove the four black screws that you see when the chrome ring is removed. Now all the parts of the lens come loose. It's construction is simple. Tighten the two screws that hold the focusing tab. The re-assembly of the lens is easy.
Good luck!

Roger, I'd love it if you, with your extensive lens testing experience, would do this two lens test/comparison.

Dear Erik,

I thought it might be that easy, but I wasn't brave enough to find out. Now I may be! The flat chrome ring on the back just lifts out when those screws are undone?

Thanks,

R.

Dear Erik,

Yes, it does. Under the ring you'll find four black screws that you have to remove. They are located just under the chrome screws.
Then undo the focusing mount. A simple affair, because it is a 50mm. A 35mm is much more complicated.
Then you can reach the screws of the tab.

It was the first extra lens I bought for my IIIc and it was what I could (would) afford plus it was small......... and wow was I happy with it. Mine is sliver made very well and solid. I became a fan of cv's which are still the bargins in this class esp lately.

I have the 21, 28, 35 and 50 Color Skopars and they're awesome. Super small, very capable (though minor distortion and flare a bit). For the money... No-brainers. So easy to toss one (or three) in a coat pocket and head out.

Exactly ! No need for a camera bag, just a coat or a vest with a few pockets. I have the the same as you, plus the 25 ("maybe" a bit too much, but well ... :)

Just received notification from B&H that they have received stock of the 50/2.5 and are shipping mine out. Just thought everyone who is looking for one would like to know. I paid $289.00 plus shipping for mine. If you have been looking for one, this may be your chance.

Wow, cool -- I wonder where they found them?

CQ has been sold out for a long time, but seems to have a few on offer now for $599. PhotoVillage appears to have some for $429.

I say, get while the gettin's good....

Thanks! I decided to try one out too - should be here Wednesday. Sure beats the $599 price.
