Cv 75/2.5

Well, a 75/2.5 Color Heliar landed on my doorstep today. I am very impressed, I can't wait to take it out for a walk. It is large, but doesn't block the 75mm bright lines in the Bessa R viewfinder, even with the hood on. Construction is solid, and the longer barrel makes for easy handling and use of the focus and aperture rings.🙂

Rover, I just got one too, and looking forward to seeing how it does. Got it on eBay a couple weeks ago, a chrome one. I don't have any cameras with 75mm framelines so I've waited until a 75mm finder arrived, just the other day, also off of eBay. It's on a Leica M2 for its first use, looking good!

How/where did you get your 75mm Color Heliar? Silver or black?

My is an ebay baby too, silver. I may pick-up a finder if I can get a good deal on one. I think I did on the lens, I bid low, and it stuck. Probably because you already had yours!

I've found this lens difficult to work with in low light, close-focus situations but this is due to the narrower width of the Bessa R's rangefinder. So definitely be careful with those muted light portraits and don't try to make the DoF too shallow. I'm looking forward to trying out more portrait shots with it, and I'll try a slightly smaller aperture (f4 or f5.6 perhaps) to see what kind of results I get.

Of course, if you've got an RF with a much wider rangefinder base, then ignore my comments. ;-)

How would it work on a M6TTL, lars? I still am torn between that and a 90mm. The Leicas are easy to find in 90, and particularly a Tele-Elmarit looks neat and nice to me (it's faster!), but then this focal length can be appealing... and Leicas in 75mm are simply astronomically priced 🙁

I don't have a Leica nor have I tried one so...I can only assume that the 75/2.5 would focus more easily due to the Leica's longer rangefinder base length.

If it's just a matter of focal lengths, I would prefer a 90 over the 75. I find my 100/2.8 macro for my Minolta SLR to be far more enjoyable for portrait shooting than the CV75/2.5 because it gives me a more compressed and close-up view. OTOH, I have no idea how the image quality btwn the various Leica 90 lenses compares to the CV75/2.5.

Erwin Puts has a few comments about the 75mm Heliar at http://www.imx.nl/photosite/japan/voigtl01.html

He mentions it looks and performs like the older Tele-Elmarit, and is at its best at f/5.6. That seems like a good recommendation to me since I got my Tele-Elmarit new in 1968 and still like its look.

I had my 75 Heliar out today for a few shots along a riverbank. It focuses quickly, I think quicker than the TE, without a lot of cranking. I'll guess if my M2 had 75mm framelines the lenshood might be close to touching the frame corner. Of course I'm using the VC separate finder, so that's not a factor.

The afternoon light was soft and dull, so I don't know if there's anything good there. I'll try to get in a close portrait among the remaining frames.

Hi All,

I have a CV 75 used alongside Leica lenses and it functions fine on M6TTL's as it would on an M4-P; M6, MP as they all have a 75 / 50 frame BUT you will need the correct screw to M adaptor - CV do them at about the price you pay for a 2nd hand Leitz adaptor (£30). The perforamce is absoltuely fine, different from the Leitz lenses I have - not as '3D' but results from it sit in shows alongside shots from the Leica lenses - 28 is also good but they are not in the same league for wide open performance.

I have the 90mm Voigtlander which I have used with a Leica and a bessa L. I really didn't put the lens to the test so I can't comment other to say that the pictures are just fine. I also have a 90mm Kilfit Kilar f3.5 dating from 1952 in virtually mint condition (LTM with extenders making it usable even with my Canon Rebel 2000 in program mode) and, frankly, not having done critical work it is difficult to tell them apart. Of course if I had a subject like Lars (do they call you Lasse?) I might be taking more portraits.

Can you believe I really haven't gotten a chance to use my Heliar yet? I have been doing too much prep work on my house getting ready for the Holidays. Next weekend I will have a lot of time and will take the chance give it a good run. I have also taken up the hobby of wine making and will be bottling my first vintage. That should make for some photo ops.

The CV Bessa T has enough long base line in her range finder for Heliar 75mm and 135mm screw mount lense. But additionnal view finder is need.

;-) They call me "Larry," "lars" is my 'net name.

I have access to a few different subjects but I never got around to doing more portraits tests with that lens. Maybe when the light gets better in the spring. Right now, we don't get much daylight and what we do get is often heavily overcast.
