CV 75mm Color Helar or 95mm Apo Lanthar or RFA?

Hello My name is Alex and I'm addicted to Range Finders.

Ok so I did it, last month I got a R3A w/ 40mm SC. What a great piece of kit, now the problems start. I want more lenses. I'm thinking about either 75mm or the 90mm CV lenses along with a 21mm. That should round out my kit until I get a 12mm or 15mm and a second body.

Does anyone have any experiance with the CV 75mm Color Helar or 95mm Apo Lanthar.

How do they compare, I see that they both have the same close focus distance, at one meter how tight is a head shot? does paralax error increase with focal length? Are they hard to focus with? I realise RF's aren't the best choice for long lenses but I can't even look at my SLR let alone pick it up.

I know these are all issuse I could solve if I attended RFA, if I took each day one lens at a time. But there's no RFA meeting here in Greece for group support.

I owned the 75 and now have the 90. Both are excellent lenses, very sharp and smooth images come from both. If I had a choice, I would take the 75.

No, 75 is not tight enough for a head shot, and a 90 up close almost is. This is the realm of an SLR though, do you really really need to take super tight head shots with your RF?

OK, the 75 is a stopish faster, offers super smooth out of focus areas, and framing with the 75mm lines in the R3A is great because with its 1:1 finder they are big, bright and easy to see. I think a 21, 40, 75 kit is a great line up. I started with 21, 35, 75 and a Bessa R. With the 75 I found I was able to focus in on specific details that I was seeing, without taking them out of context. The 90 can do the same thing, but the framelines are smaller and to me composition seems very confined.

I think you will enjoy either lens. I vote for the 75, I am sure there are others who will pick the 90.

My vote is also with the 75. If you need an M mount 90, I would be tempted by one of the Leica 90/2.8 which go for not much more and save the adapter.

can´t speak for the 75. But for a 90 i can only support Kim´s opinion from my own experience with a Tele-Elmarit. It is a very good lens, you wouldn´t be dissapointed with.

I've no experience with the CV 75, but the 90 APO is a GREAT lens. It's on the slow side, but with a sharp, smooth look (kind of leica-like (IMO)). If you need the speed and like the 90mm fl, there are some excellent 90mm options, all across the price range. For me, with an RF I seldomly go over 50mm, and when I do I find the extra reach of the 90 fl to be the perfect step. That's a personal choice, and really one YOU have to make, based on your preferences.

Watch going faster on longer lenses, other than the T, no current Bessa has a long enough RF EBL to handle something like an 85/2 or 105/2.5 close up.

My Bessa system is a T with a 15/40/105 lens kit.

I got my son a cv 75/2.5 and it's a fine lens. It's small, sharp and smooth. The CV 90mm is just way too slow for me to even think of.

I have the CV 75 because of its size and same filter size as my CV 40mm. Now that I have it, the shots are very sharp.

Like Rover, I started out with a 21, 35, 75 kit until I got some GAS. It worked well and its a very compact kit for travel. I've always been impressed with my 75 Heliar.

I like both and love both equally. The 90 is consistantly sharp edge2edge throughout the fstop range (it is equally sharp at f3.5 as f8), but is a little slow and big. The 75 is smaller, a little faster, and had beter bokeh. It tends to go with me more often due to its smaller size.

I got my black CV 75 this morning from Mr. Gandy. Gorgeous lens, somewhat bigger then my CV 35. I see there is a chrome gap between the lens and my Bessa R body, but the connection is tight. The lower right corner of the 75 frame is stollen by the lens, but this is not an issue for me. Soon I will upload first samples
