Dear Fourm;

Does anyone out there know if there is a current CV hood that will fit a Caonon 50mm 1.5.

Practical experience appreciated.

Thanks for the help.

Dave

As no one here seemed to know, I went out to E-bay, spent 9.99 + 3 dollars on shipping, and got a vented 39mm hood. Did not fit out of the box. Added a few wraps of white teflon tape that plumbers use, and it now fits like a champ, looks pretty cool too. If I ever get a few moments I will snap a photo and post.

yeah, I think the Canon is a 40mm thread, like the other canon lenses.

I ended up getting 40-40.5 step up rings for all my canons in that size, and then just dealing with 40.5 hoods and filters.

Glad you found a solution. :)

Hi Rogue -- Where did you find the 40-40.5 step-up filter? I've been looking but w/out success; 40 mm is tough to find.

Thanks

I would add, that the tape does not show at all, so I still have a nice black/chrome package, not ugly white sticking out.

I think i bought mine from Heavystar on ebay...

I don't remember though. I know I also made a big B&H order at about the same time, I may have gone through them.

See the photos! All taken w/D80 and 85mm 1.8, no tents or other lighting kit, I'm just too lazy!

I picked up a Vented lens hood at a swap meet yesterday...this is how it's marked...

Tiffen Series 6-B Lens Shade (Thread measures 44mm, Outside Diameter measures 57mm and Depth of shade is 19mm, Total from end to end with adapter is 27mm)
Tiffen Series 6 Adapter Ring Summarit F: 1.5 (Thread measures 40.5mm)

If anybody can use this shout out for it...I bought it knowing I couldn't use it but that maybe someone in here could...

gandy sells really nice metal 40mm hoods, made in japan, i think.
i had one on a canon 35/2 lens and it was very nice.

I wound up buying a 40mm-43mm step up ring and a generic 43mm hood for my Canon 50/1.5 from Heavystar on eBay. We'll see how this works.

Some Old 50mm Sonnars and their copies have that 40mm filter size. I came across this when I got the 50/2 ZK lens. I too ended up getting a 40-40.5mm adapter from Heavystar and it works great as 40.5mm is very common.
