Hi everybody,

This is my first post, I've been following this forum for a while and I must say that I've learned a lot from all of you guys, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I'm new not only to RF but to photography istself. I bought my Bessa R with 35/2.5 C lens two months ago and they're great. Lately I've noticed that when I move the focusing lever in the lens the framelines and focusing patch in the viewfinder moves up/down as well. I just want to know if this is normal and I just haven't noticed it before or if there's something wrong with my camera?

Regards,

Barret

Hi Barret, and welcome! I think you're seeing the viewfinder's automatic parallax correction at work. It should be moving both down and to the right as you focus closer.

This compensates for the difference between what the viewfinder 'sees' and what the film sees through the lens. On an SLR this would be the same thing, but since RF cameras have a viewfinder window on the front of the camera for you to view the subject, there's a difference (parallax error) in view that gets larger as you get closer to the subject.

Does that fit what you see, and make sense? 🙂

Hi Barret and welcome aboard!

I, too, was new to RF when I got here, though not to photography. The Bessa R and 35/2.5 are great. I love mine.

I'll look forward to, hopefully, some pictures from Columbia in the gallery. I've loved all the images that have come to this website from all over the world!

Hi guys,
thank you for your replies, Doug you're right it is parallax correction what I see. that's what I though too, but as I didn't notice it before I wanted to be sure.
I hope to post some pictures soon I tried to scan my negs myself but with the old scanner I have the results were too bad to show so I will have to take them to the photo lab to be scanned.

Regards,

Barret

Barret, good to have you on board. One other thing to note with the Bessa viewfinder is that the rangefinder patch could be sensative to the placement of your eye in the finder. If you look through your finder and move your eye off center, depending on how far off center your eye is, the patch may dissappear. I can't say that I have had use in the real world experience of this happening to me, but it can. I just keep this in mind as I focus to make sure that I keep my eye centered to the patch in the finder. It is more or less second nature for me now.
