CV Ultron 35mm f1.7 on M8

I have a screw thread Voigtlander Ultron 35mm f1.7 that I would like to use on my (newly acquired, used), M8, could you guys give me a little advice:

1). I will need to get a UV/IR cut filter? - I understand that the thread size is 39mm and fits into the hood. Am I correct and is there an alternative if no hood is used.

2). I understand that if I use the screw to M converter - I need to get the 135mm one to bring up the correct frame lines on the M8

I would also be grateful if anyone has this lens and uses it on their M8, if they would give me their opinion on the lens.

So far I have been using a 28mm f2.8 ZM Biogon - which I like and will continue to use this as my "main lens"

You are correct on both counts. No idea about alternate hoods- I use the original and have few problems.

I think the Ultron is a fantastic lens for the M8. It might even be my favorite. Here's my Flickr set of photos taken with it, most on the M8, some on my M2:

A wonderful lens on the M8! Because of the M8 crop, the 0.9m minimum focusing distance does not become as much of an impediment as on the M9. I loved the lens on the M8! M9, not so much 🙁

I use this lens on my M8 and love it as my 50mm equiv. I feel it has a beautiful "bokeh" and an old school quality to its look. Pretty much a great counter-balance to my 28mm elmarit ASPH.

I see you're also using the 28/1.9 Ultron, which is currently my favourite lens on the M8. Lovely colour rendition, great contrast - I don't find there's anything not to like about it! I'll go through your 15/4.5 Heliar shots when I find the time, as I'm contemplating to add this lens to my kit. Do you have any special experiences with it to share?

Thanks guys - waiting for a B + W - UV/IR filter - I have used the Ultron on my M6 and G1 and I have always liked the "look" that it gives.

I have used in on my M8 - but I got the magenta cast black so I await the filter

When I first got my M8, I bought the 1.7 Ultron based on the review of Sean Ried. I never regretted the purchase. While I like the contrast of the Summicron a little better, the Ultron is one really great lens. It seems to have no focus shift, it is compact and well made.
If you can afford the slightly higher price, order your M adapter from John Milich. He makes them out of bronze and his adapters have no scallops, so they are much easier to code. And, yes, you are correct. The 35/135 adapter is the one to use. The type II sold by Cameraquest (Voightlander distributor) may be similar.
