Canada, eh.
Some shots from last weekend with this new to me lens. I'm vey happy with it. Please excuse my poor scanning technique, I'm a traditional darkroom guy.

Film was APX100 in Rodinol 1:100

The last shot was taken into the sun. I'm very surprised at how little/no veiling flare there is.

very nice images Frank! I like the caractere of the lens, it seems to have been design for low flare! How compact is the lens? Did you use it on a LTM?

The lens is more compact than any 50mm I've seen except tor the collapsible f3.5's. It looks good on a screwmount camera. I used it on a Bessa R2. The pool belongs to an abandoned motel that's been for sale for years and years. I particularily like shots like that where nature is taking back over from man.

Very, very nice, indeed, Frank. I think I might just have to move this up the priority list. I wonder how it would look on a CL... 😉

Frank: These shots are contrasty and sharp. I like them. I'm not so sure that I like how the lens looks like. Maybe I am wrong here.

And even more from the same roll of film. It was one of those beautiful fall days!

I enjoyed looking at all of the photographs very much, but I think I see what Raid was talking about in the image quality. The tonal range is excellent overall, but within small areas there is a severe loss of contrast. It's most evident in the seller's face at the country market, but it's evident in the boards of the old shack as well. Unlike Raid, though, I don't think it's from the lens, but from compression either within the scanner or in reduction of the pictures for posting. Recently I looked very closely at the samples from some reviews of the "Genuine Fractals" software for digital image processing and noticed a very similar effect. At its most extreme it can turn a photograph into something like a drawing in a comic book, with sharp outlines and undifferentiated areas within those outlines.

Good point. I'm looking forward to really printing some of these images. The fellow's face in the marketplace was heavily digitally dodged.

Frank: Now we're getting somewhere! I also sometimes overdo the digital "enhancements", and the results sometimes are apparantly worse than before. I noted immediately the fellow's face in the marketplace, but I thought that maybe you were hastily taking a candid photo and could not optimize the exposure.

Those are great examples of B&W at its best ! You should be very happy with this lens and what it gives you, of course you da man behind the lens.🙂

Hi Steward, I jsut haven't done enough organized work with my various 50's to draw a conclusion, but it's right up there. This will seem weird (but I am kind of desperate to raise money for my Contax repair bill,) I would sell this lens for what I paid for it ($150 +shipping). The reason I'd sell this one is not because it is my least favourite, (far from it!) but because it would be the easiest to replace, and once money flow is better, I WILL replace it! Anyone? Please PM me. It's just missing the name ring on front. No caps.
