Dancers

I'm struggling with this one.
I tried to do something new and change things up from the standard full body pictures of dancers out there but I can't decide if this is a keeper or if it gets put in the tossed pile so I'm posting it here to see what everyone thinks.

This is my first time posting in the critique forum so I'll say now I'm thick skinned. If you don't like it than feel free to say so.If you give a reason as to why it doesn't work than that would be greatly appreciated but if thats just the way you feel than since I was trying something new I'm fine with people just saying it was a failed experiment.

I like the concept but the composition feels off to me. I think its the gap between the dancers on the right. Without some sort of context, it feels incidental and out of place. I wonder if cropping the right side of the frame could make it stronger?

I think that may be empathized by the motions which hints at symmetry on the left side of the frame but not on the right.

Maybe the reason I'm having a tough time with this image is that I don't intuitively follow what you were trying to capture. The concept seems focused on more abstract concepts (motion, symmetry, etc) but feels like it doesn't quite hit there solidly. Maybe I'm missing something in this?

It was shot on Hp5+pushed to 1600 (my favourite combo at the moment) with a 50/1.7 at 1.7 due to the minimal light.

This probably wasn't ideal since it was a very unexpected situation. Delta 3200 with a longer lens would have been better. But I shot with what I had and this one is cropped pretty good already.

I kind of wanted the image to be about "dance" itself rather than the dancers and since this was highland dance I thought concentration on the feet might be an interesting way to portray this.

I can see what you mean about one looking out of place. Maybe it would look better with just the left two dancers and cropped to square? I'll try again next opportunity and bring some faster film and a longer lens.

How about not including the legs on the left. Just keep the pair of legs on the right, as well as keeping the empty space in the middle (of the original picture). Of course you have to chance the title to "Dancer".
