Hi all,
I am about to finish my MA thesis and that means i can spend some dedicated time on making myself a better photographer.
I would like to take a darkroom workshop sometime this year, probably on an intermediate level. And the truth is I can't find any in Canada except this at Lúz Gallery in Victoria, BC. Does anybody know of any others?
I am aware of several workshops in Europe and for now that looks like my best bet, to be honest. Living in Newfoundland makes it equally expensive to go to mainland Canada as it is to go to Europe. But if there is something in Canada that would be convenient as I do occasionally travel for work and would be able to combine a work trip with a workshop.
Just as a note, US is not acceptable, unfortunately. I am a permanent resident in Canada but a Croatian citizen and getting a US visa is a convoluted and very expensive process I have no intentions of wasting my time and money on. And yes, that means that by all accounts fabulous Maine Media Workshops are not an option

Gallery 44 in Toronto has darkroom workshops.....there are also some Printers in Canada who are very good that will likely do private lessons, but it will obviously cost you about double the price, but the one-on-one instructions have an unmatched quality geared towards YOUR interests.

You could take a look at SPAO here in Ottawa. Very good school IMO. I took a darkroom course there a few years ago. I don't know that they offer darkroom workshops however.

Why don't you track down some old darkroom equipment and go for it? It really isn't too complicated. Need a room you can make dark and a supply of water somewhat close. Enlargers are practically free. Check your local classifieds.

Thanks everybody. Gallery 44 looks promising! Ben, I already have a darkroom and I can make a decent print, but really want to go beyond decent. I still have room to push myself on my own, but at some point I need and want to work with somebody who is way better than me at the printing craft and at this point that person shouldn't really be hard to find, if you know what I mean

These guys maintain a great darkroom in Montreal, and organize workshops a few times per year, both for beginners and advanced. It might be worth contacting them.

Bob Carnie is an awesome printer that holds both hybrid and full analog workshops, I think Steve Sherman's class just filled up.
