Well,

As the owner of this place you would guess I could do what ever I want. Well, I can't upload pictures to th egallery. It jumps straight into images uplaoded then shows nothing. I can't figure this thing out. Anyone have the same problem and then was able to figure it out?

The gallery is weird, for sure. It puts other people's pics in mine. And has me commenting on pictures I have never seen!!! Oh well. At least they are nice pictures and decent comments.

I haven't uploaded to the gallery since I first got here...

This type of gallery script tends to have problems of this nature. I'd suggest separating the forum and the gallery...using something like Gallery2 or even seeing if someone here (who has PHP/Perl experience) could possibly come up with something that would work better. Then again, I'm just not fond of gallery applications in general.

Holy Bejolies!

This is the first night I've uploaded to the Gallery without a problem and now the boss gets screwed!

S*it - I'm in deep trouble now!

Honest, Jorge, I uploaded my daily allotment of 5 pics w/no problems and with time to add in "desmo" required "contextual commentary" - see his thread.

All went smooth - which it never usually does.

Hope I didn't "break" something!

Stephanie,

When you get your scanner you will come to love (and hate - because of its "quirks") the Gallery.

You'll see.

Figured it out. Although I was saving my files in jpg with a trial version of paintshop pro, I never bothered to see the file size. The software would save a 0 byte file. I thought the file was there but nothing was ever really being uploaded. Duh .....

Trust me, I won't.

Way back when, in the dawn of my time on the internet, I ran a site somewhat like this. It was for graphic designers (amateurs, of course) and I was 17. All I remember from that time was what a PITA most of the gallery/bulletin board applications were. I finally ended up using a community blog for the remainder of the time I had that site open. With the size of the community (we were right around 25-30 people in the end that actually contributed) it was a perfect idea.

This size of a community is going to cause a few problems in this department. You need *massive* amounts of storage space to deal with the files. You need massive amounts of bandwidth to deal with the uploading of the files. You need a very good application to automate the uploading and viewing of the files. The only way I know of to really get a good application that fits YOUR needs personally is to have one custom made. And that is where the PITA thing comes from.

If I had bothered to learn PHP like I had planned, I probably would have offered to write something for the site by now that would hopefully help a bit with the incredible load and to fix the...interesting...problems that seem to crop up during uploading and commenting. Alas, I did not have the time nor the drive to learn it and so I can't do anything. Kinda makes me mad, really; I learned HTML/CSS so quickly but I'm having trouble learning PHP. Weird.

So yeah, I'm not going to like it. But I'll upload stuff anyway. 😉

The boss has gotten his upload problem fixed... well, THAT'S a relief!

I'd have to say, though, that although I haven't had any trouble uploading images to the gallery (just tested it to make sure) lately I HAVE had trouble attaching images to messages. I'm going to try one now to see if it's still a problem...

... yup, still hosed. The "Uploading File(s)" message appears, but the upload never completes.

Oh, well, I haven't taken any good pictures lately anyway...
