Symptom of the “death cult” society we live in. Takes the “fine” right out of Fine Art as is the case in so many that rule the visual arts domain. I’m so tired of this cliched mantra that artists must live in some self induced, drug infested daze with the dregs of society to “feel alive.” BS. I wish I could tell these people, if you really want to feel alive....try being a parent. Talk about daily struggle and fear mixed with complete bliss. When the controllers of culture start propping up responsible people trying to live an honest life in the pursuit of happiness we can begin to heal as a society. Happy people are equally capable of making meaningful art. The glamorization and celebrity of the worst elements of the world are overplayed. Shock art is cheap.

Antoine d’Agatas photography, if you want to call it that, is a reflection of the condition of his soul/spirit. He's lower than the animals, scum of the earth. He has no self worth, for whatever reasons, and believes that he must use women as the animal he is to justify his existence. Unfortunately, sadly, these women have no self worth and lower themselves into the cesspool that he loves to live in.
Now as for the church and religion, all of them, from A to Z...they are irrelevant on this earth. I believe there are many well meaning humans in religion who believe they can help their fellow man, too few, but they become blinded by the "system" of their religion.
Not one religion on earth can prove they have authority from God to speak on his behalf.
Now, let me throw a curve ball here, outside the square to say.....God has nothing to do with this earth or any religion. Everything that happens on this earth of no good is caused by man...famine, wars, diseases, floods etc etc.
Back to Agata...did i say he's the lowest scum of the earth?

I thought I was fairly opened minded but apparently not. I bought a David Hamilton book from Amazon and saw the work was about teen nudity and some child nudity mostly in a suggestive manner. My initial reaction was to recycle it but then I don’t destroy books so put it backwards back on the shelf. D’agata is very interesting, very Japanese. I am not offended by that. The work is dark but not sexual. Very provoking, dehumanising yes.

Irrespective of your views on religion, this is the same thinking that allowed Catholic clergy to get away with crimes against children and other powerless people for centuries. I witnessed some of them as a child. Sin is irrelevant, we are talking about alleged crimes committed against disempowered individuals, with power in the photography community and industry used as a weapon.

I'm not even religious and this phrase comes to mind..
He who is w/o sin..may cast the 1st stone..(I'm paraphrasing here..lol..).
Sure..on this fked up planet..a lot of fked up stuff goes down..24/7..
..always has..and always will..
That's the planets function..for people to experience and learn..thru..the good..and the bad..
Light and darkness..are the worlds eternal ways..
But..
People seem to think all this is actually solvable..its not..and never will be..
So where do we go from here..
You dont..go anywhere..
Perfect doesnt exist..its not necessary..
Mistakes must be made..and learned from..
But...
You can write a million more laws..and build a million more prison cells..and there will be a million more law breakers to fill them..
My personal belief system is..based on what I have experienced and read..is that..
We are all born again and again..until we got the whole human trip down pat..
And that takes thousands of years..
And a lot of ups and downs..
Current society demands retribution..thats what we have courts and lawyers for..
But for true retribution..or karma if you will..over the long term..
Comes when the current male photog "offender"...is born into a female body in a future incarnation..next time..and guess what..
Photog/offender..gets to experience the other side of the coin..the exact same thing in reverse..lol..
From the same exact people..that he did it to..this time..
Cosmic joke time..
That's the only way the lesson is fully learned..
But..which side of the "experience" is this photog on..
The front end..where he initiates karma..against another..
It could be murder..it could be robbery...but in this case...it's rape..
Or..is he on the back end..where he is paying back what was done to him in a previous incarnation..by others..
So..things may not be exactly as they initially appear..to the holier than thou..bystander..lol..
The only energy that really matters..is between the actual parties involved..
Not the people reading the daily news clips..
And becoming enraged..at something that matters to them not one whit..

I don't remember any of my "previous lives" and I've been through a bunch of my own hardships. I was born with a congenital birth defect, so does that mean that in a past life I threw acid on a person's face or scarred them with a knife?
Stating that DAH will be reincarnated as a woman and then experience abuse at the hand of another man, in the future, is so incredibly irresponsible as to say it makes excuses for all of the bad being committed today. In this case, you're telling a rape survivor "you shouldn't have raped a person in your previous life, sucks to be you."
Absolutely unacceptable.

Entertainment depicting evils like this only works, only stops from being detrimental, if the culture understands restraint and self-control. In a society that has been taught and told to loosen the reins of self-control for decades (underpinned by uncontrolled capitalism, advertising, creation of a society based on cravings), you can't expect that stuff not to stick!

I read he studied under Larry Clark and Nan Goldin. I often get the same feeling after viewing their work as well.

Like some of you I was not aware of his existence before reading of him here. After looking at his images on the Magnum web site, I can only think really? Magnum agreed to take you on and pay you? The landscapes and erotic pictures I saw were blurred to a degree that would be the envy of the old pictorialists. The cityscapes, of which there were many, were mundane, boring snapshots. On the whole, depressing.
Oh well, to each his own.
