Hi all,

So my R-D1 LCD display is dead. It started about two months ago, when it would take more and more button presses to get the display on, and now it just doesn't turn on.

Anybody with the same experience, and more importantly, prices and timeframes for a fix from Epson (not under warranty anymore)? Does anybody else fixes non-mechanical problems?

Best,

- Cesar

I remember a couple of other reports in this forum of failed R-D1 LCD's, but can't recall the outcome. Try a search and a PM to the people that had the problem if the service answer is not in the threads.

My LCD started to give me problems in August and finally died in September. I emailed Epson and they gave me two local Epson repair service centers I could take the camera to.

The place I went to then contacted the Epson in Indiana (?) and quoted me $550.00 for the repairs which I okayed.

Long story short - it came back in under two weeks with a bill for $460.00.

Great service but the strange thing is the repair ticket said they replaced the top and bottom plates as well as fixing the LCD, but I swear they replaced the camera. The camera just feels different now but nothing bad.

My LCD failed similarly. My camera was still under warranty and consequently, I sent it to Epson for repair. After waiting nearly two months, the camera (my original) was returned with the LCD functional.

Maybe $460 is the cost of getting what sounds like a refurb camera (sounds like they swapped your body) when you are out of warranty. Not SO bad... consider it akin to resetting your odometer? Do you have the same s/n?
