Grumble grumble grumble. Just missed out on a camera on ebay.

Consoled myself by ordering some Velvia 50 from Megaperls. I know that will be better for me than another camera, but I'm still grumpy.

Good thing I'm not much of a drinker! :)

The early bird gets the worm.

He who hesitates is lost.

Been there done that many times what do i do? Grab a camera and a favorite lens and head out the door.I tell myself "I didn't need it anyway"Btw i see you have a F1.2 k50 how cool is that.I have a couple F1.4s ones a "M" version the other a "A" version I use with my ist*ds.

Well, actually on the bay I think it's the other way round :)

Every time I don't "snipe" I get outbid during the last minute and wish I had. It makes me feel bad about doing it every time, but there isn't exactly much choice usually...

I also recommend AbeBooks - excellent service. Stay away from Amazon UK for hefty books, they shipped a Munkacsi book (7lbs weight) in a flimsy corrugated "carton" and did the same with a replacement. Must be trying to cut costs.

Don't feel bad about sniping. It is the way of the world. There is a tidy little aritcle in Wired 15.06 that should absolve you. At the end of the bit - "pieces valued at more than $100 receive their winning bid in the last ten seconds..."

This jives with my own experience as an eBay seller. Every single item I have sold has received multiple bids in the last 3 seconds. Most often one of these is the winning bid. The exception is where an early bidder has thrown down a huge "insurance" proxy bid because they want the item whatever the cost. Ha. If someone has the same idea with their snipe bid my stuff ends up selling for more than it is worth. Almost as stupid as a last-few-minutes bidding war.

Cheers! - John

Here's how I look at it: Unless it's a truly rare item (not eBay "rare"), I know that there will always be another. So I simply remove it from my list and don't worry about it.

I'm with you. I just add another similar item to my watchlist. I bought a FD 35-105 Canon zoom back before my rangefinder addiction, and it took me 6 or 7 tries to get one at a price I deemed reasonable.

I do understand how you feel though Chris.

Lucky you, on the Velvia 50. Go out in the early am with the sun rising and Velvia 50 loaded in your camera, and no worries!

Nice site. Found a book I was looking for. Leonard Freed-New York Police.

OT: Chris, what was the camera you missed?

I was tempted by a 2x3 Crown Graphic. Luckily someone else wanted to pay more than me. I'll wait until I can get serious and go for a 4x5, preferably a folding field camera of some sort.

The Leica Gallery in NYC recently had a Leonard Freed exhibit.

I'd read some of his photo books but seeing the large prints "in person" made much more of an impact. Very good exhibit.

There were a lot of photographs from "Police Work".

Well I bought a Zorki c and a Zorki 5 I transferred the money the next day and waited...and waited.....then the seller asked where the payment was.
I sent confirmation by my bank that the payment was made and heard not a word since.
That's the amazing feeking of stck market in the wordld of Camera collecting.
