New York December NYC Meet-Up

Bring anything you want. Some of us Don't even have Leica's (or have any interest in them). I didn't have an RF camera for a long time and still made it to the meetup. Plus it's always interesting to see new gear and not the same old boring Leica stuff. There are no rules. However bashing Fuji cameras is very much appreciated.

Sounds great! I'll try to dig up something interesting. The only Fuji I have is a G690 BL, which I rather like, so I'm afraid I won't be bashing Fuji (in fact, I rather like some of their digital stuff, having briefly examined them in the shop).

Raj,

Don't forget Visoflex (I'll be bringing my chrome 65 Elmar that utilizes a triple stacking of Leica adapters) and yesterday I secured a Novaflex LEM/NIK Leica M to Nikon F adapter. The 58/1.2 Noct-Nikkor is a marvel on the SL and I figured out how to use the F1.2 Notilux profile with the Noct-Nikkor.

One of the rare lenses I'll bring out is my silver 43/1.9 Pentax-L, the only LTM lens that Pentax ever made. The silver version is one of 800 lenses ever made. To annoy people I'll bring it "boxed" along with the external VF'er that is pretty remarkable. It has framelines for 43mm and 50mm, but also the entire frame serves well for 35mm framing. It also has that Zeiss like contrast (yellow filter) built in and a wonderful diopter.

I'm sure Chistian will bring his A7 and stack of adapters. It does seem the SL loves SLR glass to exploit close focusing and shallow DOF.

Cal

Splendid stuff! Good to know there might be some E-mounts in the mix - perhaps I'll drag along a couple of old Zeiss lenses adapted to E mount.

I'm kinda glad I'm 1,000 miles away. Handling all those wonderful lenses would do me no good at all. Enjoy your fest!

John,

Stop by sometime. Anytime you can make it we can book a Meet-Up that is convenient for you.

Not responsible for GAS. LOL.

This event will get me to download the "Leica Shuttle" app onto my Mac Book Pro. Then I should be able to tether the SL to my laptop so we can actually critically review the performance of each lens.

Basically the images open immediately into Lightroom.

I have to tell you that the SL is a remarkable night shooter and 3200 ISO is really clean.

Maggie restyled her blog into a more magazine like format. On the bottom of the page is a night shot I took in a subway stairwell when attending an awards ceremony at the "Brooklyn Accelerator." Kinda weird how sometimes night shots look like day shots because of the vivid colors and perfect exposure.

I'll also bringing out my Visible Dust kit to prevent soiling my sensor. I'll also bring alcohol preps to clean lens mounts to avoid contamination. I don't want to trash my new camera. The Visible Dust kit I own has this illuminated magnifier which is awesome.

I may have to drink twice as much....

My point, Cal, is that this meet-up sounds like my nightmare (but I'll behave). A pixel-peeping and minutiae festival. ;)

John,

You can have your fun, but lenses do matter. LOL. Kind of important in photography.

Also you know it will be an opportunity to see what the hype about some rare and unusual lenses is all about: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Warts and all it should be interesting.

As far as lenses go the near perfect M-lenses on the SL I do not favor. I actually like the SLR glass on the SL the most. So much for pixel peeping for me. Something organic about lenses that have some character that comes out in the shot.

Anyways you know how I enjoy being annoying. LOL. Why do you love me?

Cal

Dont worry John, If I make it, me and you will drink and avoid the whole thing...

Fidel,

After the election (Smellathon) what can we do to inflame the general public even more.

Actually if I want to do the finger pointing that was a popular manuver by one candidate, I would say it is Christian's fault when he tried my 50 Lux "E60" and Noct-Nikkor on his A7.

I expect protesters out on Rivington in vast numbers that demand we stop.

If I really were a pixel peeper I'd bring my 27 inch EIZO to the Meet-Up. LOL.

We better have room in that place if you're setting up a laptop for tethered capture. I really miss Puckfair. The new place just sucks

It's not bad at all... they have space, they have ok beer and food, and they allow for separate checks. Not sure why that equals bad.
