Anyone who on the weekend is near the Barclay's Center should check out the Brooklyn Flea that now has an indoor location at 1 Hanson Place. Look for the vintage skyscrapper that features a clock and a dome like a mosque.
The Flea market is in the lobby of what use to be the Williamsburg Savings Bank, and in the basement is the Smorgasburg. One of the food vendors creates Shanghai inspired street food of which I gave a try.
There are these electric circular hot plates that gets spread with a thin layer of dough. Next they crack a fresh egg and spread it into the dough. About two minutes into the cooking the bread that is kinda inbetween a taco and a tortilla is released from the hot plate, sprinkled with a big does of fresh scallion and cilantro and folded with a flap for Hosin sause and hot paste. Meat then is added and then rolled into a burrito like roll that is about as long as your hand and forearm.
Anyway these Panini like sandwiches are crisp and taste very much like Thai spring rolls, except they are a filling meal. Anyways worth the trip to Brooklyn from Madhattan. The base price is $8.00, but if you add chicken or beef it costs an extra $4.00.
The Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg is only on the weekends 10 AM-6 PM.
Brooklyn Film Camera also has a booth in the Flea market. I saw a TLR that features manual focus and exposure control that uses Instax Polaroid film. Kinda cool. It seems like one can bulk up on film and get the price per shot down to $0.70 verses about $1.00 a shot at the Fuji Store on Broadway.
It seems like "Maggie" want a Fuji Polaroid for Christmas. I'm sure I will be borrowing her camera. LOL.
Friday I ran into Mill-lis-A Mark the Deputy Mayor in a coffee shop just uptown from where I live. I met her twice before when she was representing my district (Spanish Harlem and the South Bronx).

Raj,
All are welcome. Basically a safe place for camera nerds. We do not discriminate against SLR shooters either. Any camera is welcome. LOL.

Jeff,
I am craving one of those "Monster" spring rolls.
GEAR ALERT: B&H has a great price on the Instax Mini-70 for $99.00 which is a $40.00 savings on the going price (normally $139.00). I bought one of these for "Maggie" because she wants one. I also bought three 60 exposure packs of color film, and 50 exposures of B&W film.
So here is my prediction: I say sometime in the future I will become an "Accidental Instax Mini-70 Owner" because generally there is a history of where I inherit unused cameras because she quickly abandones them.
It seems like somehow I did a selfish thing and bought myself another camera. LOL.
Be aware that there is a deadline on the sale price of $99.00. It runs out on December 3rd.

The instant cameras are so darned fun. The steep prices of IP film for the SX70 kept me at bay with it. Plus for me it's an either/or with MF + 35mm. I've no kids but got cameras and they need film, I'm still poor.
If I had kids, bet who'd spend most of the film.
Sometimes it's about learning the principles of calculation, measurement and thought. A pack for X time and do as you choose (with some flexibility).Cal, i was about to get the instax for the kid. Then I had the thought of wasting hundreds a week on film........ maybe not..
A friend thinks about instax every once in a while, though now he shifted towards a small cheapo mirrorless. Though about B&H's prices.
Cal, there is no way you'll get into Instax.

Fidel,
I was thinking of buying a Grape colored Instax Mini-8 for "Baby-Girl" who is two and half years old. My gal says that it would be a good gift for "Baby-Girl" if perhaps she was 5. In my book it is wrong to underestimate the understanding and intelligence of children, and besides how is a point and shoot camera too complicated for a two and a half year old?
My own daughter could forge my signature in first grade, but in grade school they don't teach script until third grade because supposibly children do not have the dexterity or motor skills to learn script. "Baby-Girl" already figured out how a cell phone works and already has placed a call to Maggie.
The cost of an Instax Mini-8 is about $54.00 depending on color. I bought the stealthy black street version of the Mini-70 for the wanna-B street photographer for Maggie. LOL. Anyways I kinda remember Ari shooting this kid's Play School camera that he reposessed that previously he had gifted one of his sibling's kids. The flash started the dog, and the owner took exception, but when he saw the camera Ari was shooting better judgement took over and the dog owner kinda deemed Ari as being child like and unstable. LOL.
Anyways I got a Nikon F3 HP for free, there is a couple of Nikon point and shoots, and even a Lumix that is a Leica copy with a Leica lense that goes unused by Maggie.
Just because a grown woman who has a PhD and two Masters degrees can't understand "shallow depth of field" or the term "soft focus" does not mean a two and a half year old can't understand it. How hard is it for a two and a half year old to point a camera and press a button? Anyways we should speculate and place bets if I get yet another "complicted" point and shoot as another free camera.
Actually if you shoot color the price per shot is only $0.57, and it does not require bulking up if you buy at B&H which has the lowest prices. The cost per shot at the Fuji store in Chelsea/Flatiron is about a dollar a shot for color. I don't mind spoiling "Baby-Girl" and bulking her up with film, but the parents will have to deal with any film whinning if they don't endulge her.
What gets costly is B&W at $1.10 per shot even with B&H pricing.
For $100.00 you could buy a Instax Mini-8 and a 60 exposures. Perhaps you could borrow the camera, or like me get another free camera.

John,
I'm kinda hedged. I know I can always borrow it. LOL.
In other words if it is not given to me legally I can always go ghetto and steal it. LOL.
You know me, by hook or crook.
I also figure I'll be using it more than her.
BTW how cool will it be to shoot the 62mm square. That Rollieflex wanna-B made by Real is mighty cool.

Cal, you will never ever be satisfied with the results from these cameras... it is the exact opposite of your tendencies towards big, sharp, etc.

John,
You forgot that I have a very strong personality tra-eight: I like to annoy people.
Also know that I have a lot of film images that I think are great, but nobody has seen them, well perhaps only a few.
With the digital medium I exploited it for the resolution, but in my analog there are mucho blurry low res images taken with various "Calzone" effects like OOF, motion blur, accidents. With film I can be sometimes sloppy, and also I also annoy myself and make mistakes. LOL.
Not all my photography is what people have seen. Especially with film I shoot old single coated glass, I like retro defects of retro glass soft focus, soft contrast, soft corners. I like LTM glass.
I even like Rodinal (mostly for slow speed films) which is not like my other developers.

Well I got the MS Optics x Map Camera 35/1.4 lens, very small & light.. quite fun
Was a numbered edition of 100 lenses apparently, and the paperwork inside was all handwritten :-D
Wide open and to f2 and f2.8 a bit it has a lot of character and is a fun lens
Stopped down more and it behaves quite sober and adult
Seems similar to the classic 35/1.4 pre-asph in that regard
Planning to bring it to the upcoming lens fest

Stephen,
Looking forward to seeing this lens. I presume M-mount?
What will be surprising to many is how easy and intuitive the SL is to use. The display and VF'er are really great. Lots of fun.
Last night I was playing with my retro single coated lenses on a M-body. With film I tend to play around more and try to do experiments. With digital I tend to exploit the resolution, speed and convenience.
Another interesting and rare lens I will bring is my 35/1.8 Nikkor in LTM. The SL body alone is about the size of my Wetzlar M6 rigged out with a TA Rapidgrip and TA Rapidwinder and really is not so heavy at all. The 50 Lux "E60" I tend to use the most is a rather big and heavy lens that rivals a Noctilux in both weight and rendering. The 50 "E60" on the SL feels like a tank.
Add onto that my 58/1.2 Noct-Nikkor AIS. At F1.2 and with the added 8mm to the focal length it is a bokeh machine that has OOF that resembles that from a large format camera. When mounted on a SL the camera looks like a true "Monster." LOL.

Before I went C-41/C-prints in the 90s, this was the only developer I used. However, I didn't know how different developers effected film at the time (pre-interenet).

John,
Rodinal has a one of the most wonderful tonalities, but I only use it on slow speed films because the grain does not get amplified like with Tri-X.
Rodinal is highly favored by large format shooters, and I kinda use it the same way.
I use it with Pan F and Acros.

+1 on Rodinal. 100+year old soup and it's extremely fine grained with (as you say) slow films, like ISO 100 film. Of course I have not used it in decades....
