deciphering Ultrafine Xtreme 120

I've been trying to find some info on this film for ages. The 35mm is available in bulk rolls for very cheap, so if it IS HP5+, that'd be a hell of a good deal.

hi. after using this film for a while, i recently managed to compare hp5 and this film.

cosmetically, the box, foil and wrapping paper are identical, the box of course has different markings, HP5 vs Ultrafine but the fonts are the same.

Developing both film, I find that I can use the HP5+ development time for Ultrafine Extreme.

Hanging out to dry, the Ultra Fine Extreme film has a bluish base while the HP5+ film tends to be more transparent.

joe,

it is not hp5+ because of the base color. But I use HP5+ timing with no problems at all.

Developers i have used on HP5+ timing are:

PQ Developer
Microphen
D76
XTOL

Stand developed:
==========
HC 110 in 1+100
Rodinal
Prescysol EF

I current HP5+ as the reference timing

Interesting. Thanks. Do you shoot it at box speed?
I've read in other places that it's Fomapan (the bluish base would support that), but that film usually works best at 200 or 250.

yes, i shoot it at box speed. it is from ilford coz the box, font, wrapper and backing paper all point to ilford. my guess is that ilford modded their hp5+ to customize this low cost film for ultrafine.

Pima. Ultrafine 400 in 120 format. Developed in Rodinal stand.
Exposure was iso 400, 1/15 s and f4

could be kentmere, now that it is owned by ilford/harman. but i have never shot kenmere, so i don't really know....

Its not Kentmere 400. Shot 10 rolls of Kentmere right before swapped to this in 135 format and in Caffenol-c-m latter is much better. Very different results. I get 800 asa easy out of this ultrafine stuff with 20min in caffenol-c-m, agitation every 2mins. Love it, looks great.

here are some more examples,
i think the first 2 are stand-developed either in Prescysol EF or Rodinal,
the last two were developed at the development shop using D-76 with HP5+ dev times.
3rd pix was taken on the GA645ZI and 4th Pix was taken on the Rolleiflex 2.8e
