It's called "being nice" and "helping out some guy who bought your camera".
Some countries practically confiscate more than the camera cost new. What's the big deal?
It costs you nothing, there is no risk, and you help some fellow RFF member save some hard-earned money. Put yourself in his shoes.
Do you want to cost someone big money just to prove a point?
SWAT teams are not going to bust down your door with the eBay auction print-out in hand.....

A bit off-topic. I once bought an item costing $2000 from a seller on the US East Coast. I understood that the seller did not want to lie on the customs declaration form and was willing to pay any taxes at the border however, this person marked down $3000 on the customs declaration form instead of $2000. Well, I had to pay $450 in taxes instead of $300. In order to get my money back asked the seller to produce a letter indicating that a mistake was made on the customs declaration form as recommended by a person I talked to at the local post office. The seller agreed to produce a letter but in the end, he never sent one and I never got my money back. The seller suggested that he would 'take care of it' the next time I purchased something. Yeah right! There won't be a next time. Luckily, I found an superb seller on the US West Coast. 🙂

There are terrorist photographers in Gitmo? I bet they use Canon. 😉

You have a point. I'm in favor of tasering and locking up small boys who draw pictures of guns in their schoolbooks, and grandmothers who download MP3's should be beaten to a pulp in prison.

I'm not trying to prove a point. Also,there is no chance that anyone is going to bust down my door. WRT "Some countries practically confiscate more than the camera cost new", I am not responsible for what some countries choose to do, they are sovereign entities after all. Personally, I have never paid a penny in tax on purchases from countries outside of the USA. Lucky me, huh?
WRT to helping RFF members save money, I have always priced items that I have sold on RFF at what I believe to be fair, or slightly below, market value. I have also given away a bunch of stuff on this site, including a J-8, a Canon FD doubler, Pentax H1a with 50mm and 35m lenses and Canon 50mm and 35mm lens hood.

AHA! SO! "Giving away" stuff and too much interest in so-called "rangefinders". RUSSIAN rangefinders and lenses. Sounds a little Socialist to me.
You'd better rethink whether that door is going to be broken down or not. ECHELON is listening to all your calls and FINCEN is adding up how much you're "giving away".
