Apologies if this has been asked here before (I couldn't find anything - if there have been any threads I'd be grateful for a link).

Does anyone know of any problems mounting lenses with deeply recessed rear elements on an RF? In particular I'm thinking of the FSU Jupiter-12 and collapsible Leica 50s (Elmar-M and Summitar). I ask because I'm thinking about a new M body to go with my M6 - I posted a thread on the general M forum and several people have suggested an RF, but I'd want to be able to mount and collapse those lenses.

Grateful for any info.

Leica collapsible lenses are designed to be collapsed on Leicas. The only real issue is with the M5/CL where you have to be wary of the swing meter arm. The modern 50mm Elmar-M can even be collapsed on an M8.

I have the Elmar-M and a 90mm Collapsible and use both on my M7 and M2 with impunity. The Elmar-M in particular is a fantastic lens that makes an M Leica truly pocketable.

I have also mounted an LTM 5cm Elmar and 50mm Summitar on my M2 with no problems.

Collapse away!

Regards,

Bill

Thanks, but sorry I didn't make my question clear - I want to know if they will collapse (and if the J-12 will fit) on a Konica Hexar RF.

Cheers,

Alan

An idea - perhaps you could e-mail or call Aperture Photographic in London who currently have one advertised for sale. They normally have quite a mixture of used Leica gear and should be able to advise you on this matter.

Most J-12s fit neatly into the shutter box of the Hexar (in fact, it almost looks like it is cut specifically to take that lens). Summars and Industars were not, to my recollection, a problem either.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for your help and suggestions. When I reach the stage of buying a body I'll probably spend a day or two in London and go visit a few dealers to get a feel for the various options, and I'll certainly include Aperture.

Thanks again.
