I have a 1970 production (III) 50mm Summicron and am trying to find an option for a lenshood that will snap in place when the lenshood is mounted in the inverted position. You can see from the image below that it looks like and the old cap. I've been told the new 37mm caps won't snap in the back of the inverted hood. The older cap just isn't very secure and I'm worried about it breaking or coming off when in a padded bag in my case.

Any suggestions?

14033 for 12585

14033 for 12585

The slotted 14033 cap fits tightly on the vented 12585 lens-shade inverted on a Summicron. This is a secure spring fit for the hood, or its predecessor , the IROOA.

Does your Summicron still have 39mm threads? Are you using a filter on the lens more or less full time? If so, here's what I'm doing with my DR Summicron and 12585 hood: I put a generic 39mm threaded metal lens cap on the filter. I think the cap was maybe $2 on ebay. I also have the Leica plastic cap that fits over the 12585 and the hood for the 90mm Elmarit. However, it doesn't stay on very securely and is kinda expensive to replace. It stays at home mostly.

When shooting, the hood is in place and the cap is in my pocket.

PS: My cap has a rather wide outside diameter and keeps the hood very securely in place. It won't come off with the threaded cap in place.

39mm threads and a cut filter full time... I'll check out the threaded metal one.
