Dear Bessa fan,

We have not forgotten you!

Thank you for your patience in awaiting further details on the Bessa III
camera. We have also been waiting on more info to be supplied to us.

Finally (yesterday) Cosina have given us a firm release date of the 13th of
March.

We expect to have pricing and delivery details the week before this.

Kind Regards

I just received this email from Mainline Photo (Voigtlander Distibutor) here in Australia.

Good news in some ways but I have to admit to having a little (lot of) intrepidation as to just how much it could potentially cost ... with the Oz exchange rate being so dismal and the general state of the world economy, not to mention my own personal recession, I'm not optomistic about ownership! :(

I used to think it's around $1200-1500AUD, now i begin to think it will be more because of the low AUD and recent increases on prices for the Bessas

In another forum it is said that it is 218,000 Yen in Japan. So it will be around AU$3,400, very expensive. Anyone in Japan who can confirm?

Odd to wait until a week before introduction to release a price. Got to be pretty pricey if they are holding that information back until the last minute.

I was in Japan in December and checked the price of a certain Nikon lens (50mm f1.4 AFS) and it was much more expensive there than here in Melbourne. It all depends on the distributor.

And ... this camera will have to be horrifically and unavoidably expensive in this country ... our dollar is worth squat against any major currency you name at the moment and has been for quite a while now!

Unfortunately I think you are right. I get such great work out of my Ikonta 532/16, it will be a very expensive meter upgrade! Such a shame.

Maybe the distibutor is sitting there looking at the price he's been given to sell the folder in Oz from Cosina thinking ... "How am I going to tell them about this?"

Scott from Mainline is a smart operator and runs a very good business ... I've bought a couple of things from him and if he said the 13th I would be expecting an email today sometime ... but it is Friday 13th!

I hope that's not a bad omen. :p

LOL..could be....last time i looked he had on the site, that he expected it to be around $1200AU.he might be sitting there thinking , how am i going to tell people it is now 3X that price...he might not bother! thinking ,Ah no ones going to buy it for that price anyway :bang:

I think Scott knows his target audience pretty well and will be well aware of how hard it may be to sell these for $3600.00 in this country. It doesn't matter how good the camera is, there's little adavantage in having a folder with AE because realistically that's it's only advantage over what's gone before.

A few collectors will get them no doubt but in a country with our population wise MF shooters will baulk which doesn't leave much of a market!

No doubt everyone on the Aussie list would have recieved the email. Scott seems to say there has been NO official price released from Japan yet and it may be that Germany is jumping the gun with their price....maybe it holds a small and faint hope that it will actually come out with a reasonable price tag! .......wait and see senario no doubt
