Developing film in Connecticut

Any good places for both B&W and color developing? Hartford area ?

We are getting pretty thin, I noticed the other day that M&K Photo closed in East Haven.

Where in the Hartford area? I would suggest contacting the folks at Simond's Photographic in East Hartford. They are a pro shop, don't do any processing (I don't think) but I am sure they can offer some advice.

I have had good luck at the Photo Connection (formally Willamantic Camera) now in Colchester. Huck Finn does business with Mystic Color Labs, now ABC Photo I think, down in Mystic. There is a camera shop in West Hartford, Zacky's (check the name) that may be able to help if you are west of the river.

Oh, for color I have actually had luck with Ritz Camera in the malls. But pricy. I took an adult ed class at Manchester CC, the teacher is a pro photog, he actually took some of his color stuff to Sam's Club in Manchester. They have a really busy Fuji Frontier machine and Fuji is always there keeping the machine up and training the employees he said.

Zachery's has recently moved out of their old location. I don't know if they have moved into the new spot yet (great folks). They farm out their processing as far as I know. I have been using Motophoto- there are several around- and they do an alright job. The folks at Camera Bar might have more information, but I have had trouble with one of the guys there (overdeveloped sense of ego).
I have hear there are some great places, but I do not have the occasion to use them myself.

Photo Connection is a pretty good bet - I used to use them pretty frequently when I was at UConn and they were in Willimantic.

As late as last year, they used to have some pretty nice photo outings. (Not sure if they still do.)

They do John, though I have not taken advantage. They have the same folks working there in Colchester so they are all experienced and know what they are doing.

I am in Simsbury. We have two Ritz shops in the area. I used one of them and the photos came out about the same as I got from Walmart and Walgreens. I will also try Mystic labs.

That reminds me... I need to find my way to Photo Connection one of these days. The still owe me some 12 x 18 prints that I won in one of their contests- guess the camera, or something like that. 😉

Photo connection is one of the places I heard do good work. But I would only go there if you need high end work done. Why not do your own in the sink (b/w) and send colour to walgreens or other?

Not to be too pedantic, I think the photo in the "What is it " section of the Photo Connection of Colchester site is a Busch Pressman Model C.

Try a search-at the top of the page.

For good C41, you need to try alot of your locals out-and often, even if the prints are bad, your own scanner may show that the negatives are fine. Then you have to start looking for good printers!

Are you going to shop locally for supplies? They are getting a little scarce, it is sad. Simonds Photographic in East Hartford, Milford Camera and MidTown Photo in Middletown have some stuff in stock. I have bought a lot from B&H and/or Freestyle.

If you know of another shop with developing and darkroom stuff let me know.

Ross Photo in Hamden does processing. He has a whole little studio setup in the back of his space, and the processing setup right up behind the counter in front. I haven't brought him too much, but the color and b&w stuff has been good, and he's a pro, so he keeps the equipment up.

I have used Midtown Photo in Middletown with good results as well. I live in Middletown and work in Hamden, so both places are convenient for me, but also seem to do good work.

Not quite Hartford area, but good places are a good excuse for a quick photographic road trip!

Milford Camera has closed. I use Milford Photo, and their rates have been reasonable.
