Hi,
Just developed acros II in hc-110, and got white spots all over. I did not use get this problem with the old acros. What is the cause of this? Could it be the fixing or washing? The attached picture is scanned with coolscan V and enlarged 300%

No idea, but these would have to be small black specks on the negative can you see them on the negative especially on the clear edges of the negative?

I used my 28mm as an enlarger - as I could not see anything with my loup. The film has a bit of graininess on the clear parts - but more clear than black...

Uff Da! Do you have a digital camera? You could use it to do a macro shot of the negative on a negative viewer or taped to a window. Then blow that up using a processing program to rule out a scanner problem.

The scanner can create som scanner artifacts, but I did not see that in the old acros. And tri-x/fp4 seems fine, but with a lot more grain, som it is hard to tell. Some cms 20 is on the way...so that should test the limits of the scanner.

...just took a look at a fp4 scan I did ealier - and it is actually very good, less grain than in the above scan, and without the white spots.

Snowstorm?

Snowstorm?

I just the dog for a walk during a little snowstorm here in NY. It looked just like your photo! It doesn't answer your question about the process, but I thought that you might feel better if you're be able to tell everyone that it's your best snow picture.

It does - at least when enlarged to 300%. I am still really disappointed - even though I love snow. I did try camera scan with xh-1, but I get fewer resolved details...and if I use raw I get some horrible digital artifacts. The snow is gone though....

A roll of mine, a few months ago, come out just the same. See sample image below. The fixer solution I used for that roll was not exhausted, but was far from fresh and rather full of crystals and "sediment". The "accordion bottle" it was stored in was coated with chemicals that broke off in flakes under agitation. I cleaned the bottle, made a fresh fixer solution and the problem hasn't occurred since. Not sure it helps, but it may be worth trying, if your chemicals aren't fresh. One thing I didn't try, is to re-wash the affected negative, but I doubt it would have removed those spots.

I haven't used the Acros film but we saw a similar problem on numerous batches of Arista EDU (which is rebadged Fomapan) in large format sizes. When you looked carefully at the negatives it was like someone sprinkled pepper all over them.

Best,
-Tim

As Andrea pointed out, these look more like artifacts during development. I've never had issues with products from the premier film makers, Kodak, Ilford or Fuji (both series of Acros).

I just made a new batch of fix last week, because I saw "silvery" bits floating in the old fix...but I did not clean the bottle...and I also did not have a problem with the pan-f I developed last week (with the new solution). Yours seem much worse than mine though, as mine is a cut out from a 300% view in LR. But, I am now trying a rewash of a part of the negative....
