Df2, what I would like to see

A Df2 needs to be smaller, like an FM. The Df is huge; the D610 and D800 are huger.

With all the things that many want to be taken away for the Df MkII

Why not take an junked D610 and put the sensor in a Nikon F3 HP body..
it should be a cheaper conversion than a new $3000 DSLR...😛

I just started the thread for fun thinking about how it could become more like a traditional analog camera. Actually I'm extremely happy with the camera. The only change I would really like to see is interchangeable screens. It's even OK if the camera has to go back to nikon for the change. I just want a micro prism with split image inside on a gg field. a grid is OK too.

It's so simple to use as an analog type camera. I turn off the LCD and use the shutter speed dial and aperture ring as I would with my F or F2. It's comfortable in my hands and I can actually manually focus with ease.

Remember this was a fun thread to think about what v2 could be. I even like the ability to swap my G series VR lenses and go to the thumb and finger control wheels and shoot like a digital camera.

Great blend of tradition and technology.

I did a test tonight to see how easy it is to change exposure compensation and ISO without taking the camera down from my eye. I use the shutter speed analog dial all the time and it's no problem to change while viewing. As mentioned the only points where it locks is 1/3 stop, Time and X sync. The shutter speed is displayed in the VF.

I tried changing ISO without lowereing the camera and had no problem. I don't think this is something I'd do but it was no problem to release the lock button with the left thumb and rotate the ISO dial with the left index finger. ISO is displayed in the VF.

I guess someone might want to change exposure compensation while viewing so I found I could release the lock in the center with my left index finger and rotate the dial with my left middle finger and thumb. It was quite easy and + & - are indicated by the over under exposure bar and a small icon changes in the VF to indicate over and under plus a numerical indication of how much the change is is visible in the VF.

No problem at all but ymmv.

It would be nice if the LCD could be rotated like that of the epson rd1. With very tight tolerances so that it feels solid when reversed.

I'd love to know how many people with video capable DSLRs actually use the video feature. I tried it on my D800 just to see what it looked like but in over 18 months of owning it now have never shot a video.

It's not like there are no other choices. If the Df doesn't do what someone is looking for there are many more cameras to pick from.

I would just like to see it smaller and some of the less used functions removed from dials and put into menus or buttons.

Hah, I posted this idea (no big preview LCD) last year and what do we know, some people start to catch on.

1. There are hundreds of digital cameras with big preview LCDs out there, if you love LCDs, go for one of those.

2. I never said "no LCD at all," I'd never give up a small LCD screen that allows me to change ISO, look at the histogram, and see the battery and card capacity. But that's it!

3. Preview via wifi to your smart phone is a good way to concentrate on shooting and still be able to review at your leisure. This is not stupid, it'll bring back your confidence in your shooting skill. It's a good thing, folks.

4. Losing the big LCD means prolonging battery life and thinner body, who does not see the benefit of this?

5. To tie this back with the Nikon Df, it's an appropriate direction to go "really" retro by bringing back people's confidence in their own judgements.

So yes, I support this notion, but at the same time would be shocked if they (Nikon) actually did this. 😀

Oh, another camera that should follow this path: a full-frame Ricoh GRD.

I didn't mean to give the impression this wasn't fun😉. I just think that even in a community of "traditionalists" there is a pretty interesting diversity of the "perfect camera".
