thanks! actually..thanks for reminding me...i remember someone else telling me to get a larger changing bag too. already have the thermometer, from what i've read, diafine is temp independent, but there is a range of recommended temps anyways...definitely would be handy!

chose diafine, cos i've used it before...and i like the convenience of it. also, i like that i can shoot tri-x at 1600, and that although i might get 'flat' results...its ideal for scanning, and editing...i like that punchy b/w look...i've seen some examples on other sites, and i definitely want to give it a go.

as for why 999 rolls, you're correct...was just kidding! trying to make a joke, in reference to the worry about film declining, because of the repackaging or something.

Distiller water, though while reusing diafine the chemicals are going to get ugly dirty. Diafine has very wide temperature latitude. If your room temperature is within the range shown on the box instructions and your chemicals are at room temperature, a thermometer is not as important with this developer. But it is good to get one if you are buying stuff, may as well fill that box up.

Look on eBay for reels and tanks. Much cheaper than new.

It's really a good idea/option for Tri-X; anyway, don't skimp on changing bag, take a good one like this:

I have used Tri-X at 1000ISO, souped in Diafine, and love the look !

Well that's a disappointment ... my mental image of 1000 rolls of Tri-X just flew out the window! 😀

Consider also with Diafine you can range over/among a wide variety of iso setting (from 400 to 1600) on the same roll, envisaging from low to high contrast scene; very handy-andy.
