I found myself in Calgary on business a couple of days ago and handled a Zeiss Ikon ZI. Holy @#$%^! I want that viewfinder!

It's big, bright and clear, with great eye relief. Frankly the best viewfinder I've used. It pretty well defines the ZI, though I find the whole thing the most intuitive camera I use.

I did not like the positioning of the shutter speed indicator - it's far too wide on the side in my opinion. I much prefer the Bessa VF (and the whole camera but that's another story)...

To say that is big and bright is an understatement. It is the best viewfinder I have ever seen on any system, period. And the camera itself is just so perfect. It feels great in your hands. Not quite the heft of a Leica, but as Mike said, totally intuitive. Just perfect and then there is this amazing viewfinder. I've never seen anything like it.

Vic, thanks, ahem, for the encouragement. The thing is that my birthday, New Year's, Christmas and our wedding anniversary all happen within a week... hmmm...

You definitely should consider changing the leatherette on it with something more durable like GripTec, since not only what it ships with very cheap and susceptible to wearing down fast, but you'll like the viewfinder so much, your nose will bore a hole in the leatherette before you know it
That is... If you end up buying it

I have 2 ZI's and may eventually replace the cover due to wear, but for general handling, the Leicagoodies SLING is a MUST-HAVE. I also added a soft-release button.

Oh excellent. Not only are you encouraging me to buy the darn thing, but now you are suggesting accessories as well. Some friends
Actually, I do have a rule that for purchasing of photography equipment I can use only the money I made doing photography and so far it's been a pretty good rule, so I think I'll stick to it. A couple of sold prints and a published story should be enough for a nice body-lens combo.

Finally at home...
That viewfinder is really great. Looking through it is as if someone has just turned on the light.

And done. I have a nice new ZI with a 35mm C-Biogon 2.8. Really happy with it
It took me about a roll and a half to get used to the eye positioning when focusing, but now it's quickly becoming a second nature. I have to say it's been a real pleasure using it for the last two days. And I do want to give a shout-out to Rob from Rangefinder Store in Burlington, Ontario who was great to deal with as always. Here are a couple of samples on HP5+ in TMax Developer.

Only camera that comes close is the Bessa III / Fuji GF670 -- now that's a viewfinder!
