Did Fuji lab just double their C41 dev/processing charge?

I was asking the owner of the local Kodak one hour if he's still doing C41 ... and he is!

He turns the C41 machine on every other day to do the few rolls that come in over a couple of days. I have to admire his determination but I suspect that the unit will be shut down permanently when it gets to needing major servicing or repair.

I am the OP on this post and I owe an update. I am happy to report that Fuji lab hasn't hiked their developing prices. I picked up two more processed rolls of 220 rolls with prints at Walmart and they were $3-4 a piece. I also talked to a Fuji lab representative on the phone and she doesn't know of any price hike.

What I came to realize is that the additional charge I incurred for a couple of rolls was due to some processing challenges. I had some severely underexposed negatives that became apparent when I scanned them myself. The prints I had got back from Fuji lab was nothing short of a miracle and showed me the strength of C41 processing and printing by a professional lab. I would be happy to post some samples comparing the poor neg and actual prints that I got back if I can later. Hats off really to the Fuji lab technician(s) who took care of this. I would be glad to pay the extra for a magic like this.

The lesson from all this is that if you are one of those taking advantage of the bargain basement developing done at Fujilab through Walmart etc, don't be too alarmed if you don't see the bargain price charged at the checkout. There must be a reason for it. The envelope does not come with any explanation of any out-of-norm developing/processing done to make the prints presentable.

Time to burn through some more 120/220 rolls. :0)
