Previously I reported the existence of prototype digital Hexars.

today I found out one version uses a full frame sensor!

still, no decision yet if it will be produced.

A huge step in the right direction if it has a full frame sensor and gets produced at a reasonable price in M mount.

Are we talking the Hexar digital AF, or the RF? I get the impression the AF was the generally more successful camera; if it's the RF, I hope by now they've solved the problem with rangefinder misalignment! My RF is being repaired by Greg Weber, but there's now a shortage of spares for the rangefinder...

I think about Konica Hexars and ZI RFs. That (I guess) is the future trend, it is an excellent RF body together with new developements in full frame sensors. I can´t understand why
there exists the DSLR. Lets see what the other makers do.

NOW you can see why it exists, right? Like McDonald's hamburgers, people seem determined to buy the dratted things, inexplicable as it might seem to us...

The problem with a full frame sensor on a RF is that the distance from the rear of the lens to the film surface is far shorter than with a (D)SLR. That means that the angle of the light striking the sensor at the edges is significantly larger than the angle of acceptance of any sensor up to and including current technology, leading to extreme vignetting and chromatic aberration, especially with wide-angle lenses. Kodak seems to have a breakthrough enabling them to build a 1,37 crop sensor (but not full frame) for Leica that is acceptable which is the reason that the M8dig is in the pipeline now. BTW even the Canon 1DsII with its far longer film-sensor distance and state of the art sensor technology exhibits this problem to a certain degree, albeit acceptably. The problem might be solved by radical new lens designs as well, but that might be even more difficult than developing sensors with wideangle acceptance. Current views question the value of full frame sensors anyhow ( see Erwin Puts's website). I'm glad I'm not a camera-designer.... 😀

Funny that you mention that connection. On Dpreview, there's a new release from Konica/Minolta and Sony regarding their collaboration on DSLR's. So now you have Konica doing a digital RF and Sony who makes the sensors for many dslr's and who also have a working relationship with Zeiss.
 
I suppose you're talking about a digital RF, but a digital Hexar AF would be nice, too. Konica Minolta, are you listening? ;-)
 
I have a potentially stupid question about this framing-thing🙂
How's it with the RD-1 digi rf? Can you use the LCD to compose, just like on all digitals? Can you use it to rf focus?(i guess not) When you compose on the LCD, is it what you see is what you get like on other digitals, or are the "framelines" (crop edges" as inaccurate as with a RF brightline finder?
If it is accurate on the LCD, is this then the solution for the infamous "rf problem" of parallax, inaccuracy of framelines, close focusing etcetera? (ok, i know, close focusing is limited by the lens)
 
Hi Pherdinand, I found out playing with Remy's RD-1 the LCD screen is only for viewing afterwards. Quite disappointing!
It would be brilliant to be able to focus on teh LCD for special purposes. I have a small Canon IXUS first generation digi that I use like that. Works well!
