JW as the oldest of 9 children of a photographer father was detailed with getting school football shots with dad's Speed Graphic. When he joined the Marines to see the world, he was assigned to Navy Photography School to train as a darkroom technician (though he'd told no one in recruitment or testing about his experience). The day before he arrived at his base in Vietnam, its darkroom and all photographic gear was mortared. He spent the rest of his tour as a door gunner in a chopper. Semper Fi.
He's seated on the Ken Kesey sculpture with one of the boys of the sculptor, Pete Helzer, who took a poetry writing workshop from me back while Ken (his neighbor) was alive. We're going to meet for coffee and talk photography tomorrow.

Grazie, Robert, glad to see my favorite cyclist in the dark image, and thanks Allen, I will give him your brother-in-arms greeting--also the loan of a Nikon FE 50/1.8e and/or a Panasonic Gx1 20/1.7, if he will try them. He has been recovering from a stroke for a year, and getting out into public spaces is a pleasure for him.

On another subject (Merrill use, discussed above), the link below shows my DP3 rig. An LCD loupe and a pistol grip (or monopod) helps me work as naturally as possible.

The Cao Dai Holy See in Tay Ninh Province, Vietnam. The church was
established in 1926 and found it's way into Graham Greene's controversial novel
''The Quiet American''.

I was sick of trying to mimic "film look" and decided to take advantage of RAW headroom, custom ACR profile with minor tweaking in PS (only thing that needs individual treatment is curves adjustment). Click for full size.
