Digital Nikon FM2 ?

Its so sad Nikon and Canon can't see what's plain as day.

We want our cameras smaller, lighter, more versatile and cheaper. At least as sharp if not sharper.

They are about to learn that lesson the hard way. Neither will get anywhere without a new mount, which doesn't preclude adapted functionality with the F.

The A7 is not just coming out of the blue. It could not exist with the short flange e-mount.

You have to take care of what "We" means.

"We" is actually a highly fragmented population of users who want extremely different (niche) cameras.

Nikon, and everyone else, is looking for the next big niche.

Funny, pre-orders of A7r, now sold out, suggest this far more than a niche.

Nikon video tease

forgive me if it's already been mentioned.

it really exists!!! cool!

"A photographer stands alone in a bleak landscape. Something has been missing in his creative life. Will he find it here?

Nikon presents a series of short movies depicting a photographer roaming through Scotland with a camera as his only companion. Discover how he reunites with his creative side on his journey of self-discovery."

It's been a very, very long time since I've been to the Nikon website, and look, the D3s is still on there! My D3 isn't *that* obsolete, yet!
In another thread I was batting around the idea of dumping everything but a film body and a few primes for Leica, but this has me reconsidering it.

My D700 isn't there any longer... 😱

So I absolutely need to buy the new "DF" so that my toy is on the official board again ! 😛

... aoh, not at all ! I found the trick out : my D700 is now fitted with a thin genuine leather AN-1 neck strap instead of that ugly yellow large thing which was in the box. So my camera now looks like similar to the teaser's one... where are those chic trench-coat and linen scarf when you need'em ? 😀

+1. I have been wanting a digital Nikon FE2, or F3, or FM3 for quite some time. I like my D700 and D300, but would really like the small size and handling, in digital form, of my smaller Nikons. If anyone can do it, Nikon can!
What's wrong with a digital FM2? Lol 🙂

your upset because it's a AF camera??? why??
Because AF on an SLR still means bulky electronics, many buttons everywhere for the multiple AF modes, a switch between AF and MF, a joystick for adjusting the AF collimators, a focusing screen which has to be AF-friendly (can't be a classic Fresnel screen which is the best thing for manual focusing), and pesky customizable Fn buttons/menus to help decide whether you want to AF-lock or AE-lock when you half-depress the shutter release.

So if it's an AF camera it just canNOT be the "digital FM2" we, avid MF Nikkors owners and users, were all dreaming of.

And by no means can it be "Nikon's M9".

Of course we'll be able to use our MF lenses on that new thing, but probably not in a very different way than we already do on the existing Nikon DSLRs which can meter with MF Nikkors.

Unless there is "something" in the rumoured hybrid viewfinder (electronic rangefinder being "something more substantial" than what it is in, say, the D700 VF ???).

I'm more committed to Canon, but i've always loved Nikon bodies. I've had a few: F80, F100, F6, F4, FG, and FE2. Different eras, and different designs, but i've liked something different about all of them. Whatever this new thing is, i just hope it feels like METAL, and not some sort of modern composite/plastic. If it looks like an FM2 but feels like a Fuji X-Pro1 or Olympus OM-D... no, thank you. I can get a better 'device-y' camera in the Sony A7r.
