Digital Nikon FM2 ?

I love all Nikon manual SLR, these are the cameras I have used for many many years before I was converted to RF.

Maybe an OM-D for you Keith.

I quite liked the OMD but in reality it was just too small which made it look kind of dinky IMO.

Hard to please! 😀

If it has AF (which it will) I'm out
AF comes with half silvered mirrors -> dark VFs, unnecessary battery consumption and weight/bulk/cost that could be used elsewhere, like a massive VF with top notch optics, great shutter and electronics, weather seals and a selection of split prism and matte screens.

Of course 2-3 years ago I'd be wetting my pants for such a camera (AF or no AF) but now with so many awesome options out there I'm way more picky. If they want to do an FM2, do it properly, that was an MF camera 🙂

You don't have much choice if you want a non-AF digital camera.
But if Nikon makes one, you take one and I buy the second. Anybody else out here?

If I'm not mistaking the only exclusively manual focus camera currently in production is Leica?
I feel that the market for pure manual focus digital cameras is a bit underestimated, and a lot of people havent actually used a camera that was built for MF to see that it isnt actually so difficult... a lot of the difficulty comes from the prioritisation of AF in modern camera design.

I have two AF Nikons ... D700 and F6 and both of them have a finder that's not far behind my OM-1 in brightness and clarity. No reason why an auto focus FM should be much different.

I completely agree. I think it is easier to set something myself (e.g. focus or exposure) than to analyse "what is the camera thinking now and what settings do I need so the camera does what I would do if I could do it myself.."

But this not very widespread. Those who are old enough to have started with a manual focus camera and got used to it are out of the marketing planning (the 49+ people have the money but are still ignored). I don't know why.

I fully agree, but it seems that the marketing gurus have a different target...

Only so if you've not been waiting for this camera many, MANY years like some of us. I spent many years with a Nikon F3 by my side. Then, for some reason, Nikon DSLR designers decided that all DSLRs had to be configured like the workhorse F4. Ever since, they've stuck with that design, even for entry level DSLRs. I for one have always hated the big bulging plastic look of modern DLSRs and the out-of-reach price tags of full-frame models. Now we might finally (after waiting 15 years!) get something more akin to the F2 or F3 at a somewhat reasonable price. D**n right I'm happy!! 🙂

What I wrote on this forum so many times.

Now let's wait...

Well, getting tired of waiting I finally bought a used mint D700 on last April so I'll be tight on money when it comes out... 😱
