The boyfriend wants a camera (praise be the lord - he is finally catching on). The lucky ******* gets to travel widely but he has no interest in gear or technique. I bought a GXR, hoping that my son or partner would take an interest - no happen.
When we were in Sydney last weekend I needed another memory card and took the family along for the purchase on the way to a scenic place. The boyfriend looked at a section of cameras and said that is what he wanted. I looked at the camera's in his view and was horrified. I can get over that. He wants something digital, that will fit in a business shirt pocket. Auto EVERYTHING. There are so many choices... He wants to take pictures of waves. I think a zoom option might suit.
Any recommendations are welcome.

How about something like the PowerShot SX260HS? It's a great all-around camera with a 25-500mm lens, and it's compact enough to fit in his pocket. All of the reviews of it are good. I have one and love it! Here in the States it goes for about $299US, so it's not horribly expensive. It has a lot of features but it also allows for a lot of auto-everything shooting for those who don't want to take advantage of the full range of manual control it also allows. All in all, it's a very cool camera!
